To think I should just pack it all in and do something else?

I work on average a 70 hour week in the educational field. I have young children that I would like to see more of. I spend all my time at work making sure that everyone is doing what they should, that everyone is taking care. Some of the people I manage are just so lazy, and others can't seem to think for themselves. Got the result of a parent survey today and some of the comments were just mean. Am I being unreasonable to just tell the whole ungrateful lot of them to stuff their job and leave? I have no idea what else I could do, I'm just so tired of people. Is this burn-out? AIBU?

Do it if you can. My circumstances were very similar. I jacked it all in and haven’t looked back. I’m now a SAHM (not right for everyone, I grant you) but I have absolutely no intention of going back to work until my youngest dc is at least in junior school. That’s years away as he hasn’t even started Reception yet! I burnt myself out making sure everyone else’s child was well cared for, to the absolute detriment of my own. It was utter madness and I wish I’d got out sooner. I’ve got no idea what I will do when I go back to work but it sure as hell won’t be my original job.

You only get the one life. It is often only 'after' you have finished something that you realise how shite it was.

Is it worth giving yourself some time to try and find something else, with a plan to jack anyway in say March?

Find another school. That's ridiculous.

Life's too short! If you can do it! Get out!

Sadly, I clicked on your thread to see if (like me) you were in teaching.

That says it all really. I have no advice to offer. But you are not alone.

If you find a reasonable alternative...please share...

It's good to know I'm not alone. Have spent this evening googling what else I could do...no idea though. Just so worn down and tired of dealing with petty whinges. Surely there must be something else I can do? Any others make the leap and live to tell the tale? Can't be a SAHM as we need two incomes to make ends meet at the moment, although I could take a pay cut.

I'm in a school in a leadership role and I don't work 70 hours a week. Maybe 45? Not all schools are the same.
