Today I took my two toddlers for a bike ride in some nice woods. The place was completely empty, not a single car in the dirt car park so I parked next to the fence but with enough room to comfortably open the car doors fully for the kids to get in and out. There’s a gate adjacent to where my car is, it’s locked but provides access for the forestry commission when they’re maintaining the area.
Arriving back at the car after our ride, I opened both the rear doors for the kids to climb in themselves, which they did. I set about squeezing their bikes into our impractically tiny boot.
A Land Rover turned up and stopped, engine running, nearly head to head with my car and directly in front of the locked gate. I assumed they were unlocking the gate so carried on what I was doing (mostly just swearing, cursing and wishing for an estate car) Finally managed to shut the boot and went to strap the kids into their seats. The second I shut the rear door, the Land Rover revved up and managed to squeeze into the space I’d left between my car and the fence in an empty car park with only our two cars in it. I was incredulous!
A middle aged couple got out, (well, eventually... the woman struggled to fit out the passenger side and had to go out the drivers side in the end...) they got their dog out the boot and off they went for a walk! As if it was the most normal thing to have done!
Fair enough if it was the last space but in an empty car park?!? Really?!?
