To ask if development works would put you off a property

Trying to sell our flat and the landlord has put in a (wholly inappropriate!) planning application to redevelop the basement into a new self contained flat. Whilst I am pretty sure this will get rejected as there are loads of reasons why it's a terrible proposal (previous applications have been rejected but the greedy bastard keeps trying!) and whilst the flat is several storeys above the basement, the application will come up in buyers' searches.

Would that put you off? Or would you see it as a possible short term inconvenience for a very long term investment?

I am worried; DP thinks nobody will mind!

It would put me off

Yes, massively off putting. Construction work is hell on earth for everyone around it.

Rebeccaslicker · 27/11/2017 11:36

This is my huge concern Sad And yet this landlord has spent the last 2 years slamming in planning applications and making everyone in the blocks pay a fortune to have them knocked back by planning experts. Urgh. It's infuriating!

10000000% this would put me off. No way would I buy knowing i'd potentially be subject to months and months of incredibly intrusive basement developmental.

If I could see that it kept getting rejected then it wouldn't put me off. A currently active application would worry me, or if I could see that something similar had been approved along the street.
But then I know a fair but about planning. I can imagine it putting other people off. How annoying.
