Friend was on phone to her dad earlier (she is early 20s) as had been delayed for family lunch due to hangover Grin

They have a jokey relationship but found it a bit weird as he started making jokes about why she was delayed - in particular saying “oh I’ll tell Auntie Jane that you’ve had to pop out to get the morning after pill - big night was it?!”

Am I a massive prude?

How could you hear what her dad was saying?

GlassTea · 26/11/2017 20:07

I was told after!

Omg. I used to get embarrassed when sanitary towel ads came on the telly and my dad was in the room, so joking about having a shag, would NEVER have been on the agenda (no longer with us sadly).

But even my mum, who I have an amazing, open relationship with, who I can talk about sex with, wouldn't make this kind of 'joke'.

In fact, I don't know any of my friends dads who would say this to their daughter either.

Irresponsible sexual activity is not a joking matter.

GlassTea · 26/11/2017 20:22

Yes I have a close relationship with both parents but wouldn’t joke about shagging with either. It was obviously a joke but is quite different from my own relationship with my dfather

I remember joining a gym as a teen with a friend, had to fill in the health questionnaire etc. Gym owner knew her dad so when he came in the owner said "had your DD in, yeah the one who said she's pregnant on her questionnaire".
He, the dad and my friend found this v funny (obviously she wasn't pregnant!)

I was flabbergasted as I'd have been killed by mine if he'd heard stuff like that! I'd be SO uncomfortable joking about sex with my family but others are different.

Signed, a fellow prude

Remember after DS1 was born my ex was regaling her father with a blow by blow account of the birth. When it came to the part about the midwife checking how dilated the cervix was, her dad said "bet you enjoyed that!"

The whole thing was totally surreal, as she didn't have the sort of relationship with her dad where that conversation would have been anywhere near normal.

Your friends conversation sounds very much like a conversation I would have with both my parents!

There is not much we don't joke about and there has never been any awkwardness between my parents and my sister and I!

My husband wouldn't do it with his parents though!
