I'm generally clumsy and awkward so you would have thought I would be used to this kind of thing. This morning I've ended up with one of my shoes on top of my neighbours shed!!!

There was a cat doing it's business on the front lawn (not a fan of cats poo on my lawn, especially on a front lawn when itll probably get trodden in ) so I threw one of my trainers to the hedge near the cat to scare it away (no intention of hitting the cat , just the russle the hedge to scare it away) ....only I misjudged the throw and my shoe is now on their shed roof . Aaaarrrggghhh. My levels of embarrassment can't cope with actually going round to ask if I can climb on their shed roof to retrieve a shoe !!

I can never leave the house again can I?! The shame .

Just tell them that your DC (if you have any) threw it there.

Or the cat nicked your trainer and dropped it on the shed roof.

Or you sleep-walked last night and you dreamt that you threw your trainer on the shed roof and, lo and behold, when you woke up your dream was real.

Can you retrieve it using a broom handle or other similar long implement?

I feel too embarrassed, they keep themselves to themselves but I suppose it would be a bit of an ice breaker.

Being a wimp , and to save embarrassment, hopefully a broom handle in darkness can retrieve it .

Keep watch til they go out. Then wearing black stealthily retrieve the shoe.

I think I would - I can see my shed roof from my back door, so if I saw a trainer on it I'd wonder who it belongs to!

I think that's brilliant. I'd love to open my die to a neighbour saying, "I'm afraid my shoe is on your shed". But I do tend to prefer the non traditional conversation topics.

It's times like this that I wonder, am I strange? Because I really can't see what's embarrassing about this.

If it makes you feel any better op, our trampoline once ended up on our neighbours shed roof. You should have seen me and my neighbour trying to get it down safely, what a palaver!

Just go and confess the truth. It will most likely make their day.

Maybe use a telescopic window cleaning brush to bring the shoe to you?

Just wait until the see and retrieve it then hop out and rummage through their bin. It could take a while though.

My shoe once ended up on a window ledge above a shop, witnessed by everyone in the pizza restaurant who saw me pissballing about with DD and do a theatrical high kick so my shoe sailed off my foot and landed on the ledge above. I then had to style it out and carry on walking pretending I didn’t have just one shoe on while DD was saying “mummy where did your shoe go?”

My df once sent a broom head flying over 15' laylandii trees into the neighbours.
He was practicing golf swings with the broom and the head wasn't on as tight as he thought. His face as he watched the imaginary ball sail straight down the middle of the green turn into a real broom head was a picture. He then did the classic thing of looking puzzled at the empty broom handle.
Funniest thing I've ever seen.
He never dared collect it. If mn had been created (or indeed the internet) it probably would have ended up as a thread: "How on earth did this broom head arrive in the middle of my lawn when I've surrounded my garden with huge trees".
At least it missed their greenhouse.

I like people like you. Don't ever bend yourself out of shape for others. You may be embarrassed but you have put a smile on our faces. I'd love to have you as a neighbour.

I once introduced myself to the next door neighbour two days after moving in when DFriend's small dog escaped through a previously unknown hole in the fence and I had to retrieve it from her garden.

IT sounds like a "meet cute" setup in a rom com. Ditsy, but gorgeous, CeeBee (played by Jennifer Aniston in her heyday) throws her brand new Manolo at neighbour's bad tempered Siamese. But ends up on shed on the diving board of next doors pool. She trots round all charmingly deshabille, expecting lovely old Mrs Schneider, (played by Bette Midler), instead it's her nephew Matthew Machonahe (who I can't spell and before he became a serious Actor) Obviously just wearing jean. Or a towel. Cue loads of mix ups, including him falling in pool, but saving the Manolo, until ❤️❤️❤️

I met my neighbours in a similar incident. Day we moved in my dp was playing football with dc when he kicked the ball and his trainer went flying into next doors garden.

Went and knocked on the door to ask if could have it back, but her English isn’t great so kind of had to demonstrate what I was after. Now we all get on well but it’s probably the strangest introduction I’ve ever had.

Honestly if that's the only thing wrong today, you have it good.
