To be bothered by how much we consume as a society...

Don't get me wrong I love a retail therapy session but today just felt utterly gluttonous in the amount of ads for Black Friday, the 'deals, I couldn't move for emails offering me 20% off lots of things I don't need. I'm not suggesting everyone knits their own yogurt and lives like Mormons but I really feel we don't have the resources on Earth to keep consuming, throwing and consuming like we do. Everything is disposable, straws, clothes, we buy water in bottles then throw them away polluting the oceans and planet for ourselves and future generations. I have no idea what the overall solution is but it really got to me today Sad.

Em I hear ACV can be useful for so many things. Once I dabbed it in a skin tag and by next day tag had gone.

Really over consumerism and the frenzy surrounding acquisition of material possessions. Ugh. Currently staying in a v organic home, no plastic anywhere, chickens, vegetable garden... so lovely

I think the uk needs to get a grip on the amount of plastic packaging in supermarkets. I appreciate they like to package and sell fruit by item price rather than weight as this gives them more profit but I couldn’t believe on a recent hol to the uk ( we’ve lived in Australia the last 5 years) the amount of excessive packaging in uk supermarket / food and produce. It’s as if presentation is everything in the Uk with food rather than taste . Shiny plastic and “aspirational” paper wrappers branding basic produce and seemingly you can jack up the price. No need to wrap bananas in plastic or chop them up fgs. “Convenience” has gone too far. Hate to say it but the uk is worse than most countries for this.

I work for a large law firm with offices in many areas of the country.

There are no recycling facilities across the board (other than for paper around the printer). So milk cartons, cardboard boxes etc all get put into the normal rubbish bin.

It does my head in. And people look at me like this: 🙄 if I raise it.

struggling that's so disappointing. It takes so little to recycle. Where I am there are big penalties for mixing rubbish and recycling. Kids automatically recycle and repurpose.

I feel the same way. It's awful. Why do we even have plastic bags for instance? They are so unnecessary, they need to be banned worldwide. I watched a clip of Attenborough recently, talking about how even fish at the very depths of the ocean, have been found to have ingested plastic. So plastic is in our food chain and will likely end up killing sea life, as well as us. It doesn't bear thinking about.

Mistress I agree they need to be banned. We have all become very greedy and self serving, time for big changes.

Some fresh young leaders have emerged across the globe during the past year though which I think spells hope.
