Hi. AIBU? Just returned from two weeks off sick from flu etc. In the middle of renovating house, stressed beyond belief at work as we're understaffed and work has been extremely stressful since July. Walked out on my partner yesterday because we had one argument too many and I'm staying at his parents. Had two awful panic attacks today and in excruciating pain due to chronic pain condition. Feel like I'm cracking up. Xmas holiday starts on December 15th but don't know if I can hang on till then. Not sleeping or eating. AIBU to get doctor to sign me off with stress?

I would say do that if you need to, but the longer you’re off for, the harder it is to return!

If the Dr agrees you aren't fit to work then no you are not BU.

I had been signed off for 2 weeks with anxiety, i returned to work for 2 weeks but then had an awful experience (was mugged) and I've been off again for a month with anxiety and panic attacks. I've had 3 week sick notes (1 week self cert) but it's getting harder and harder to go back as PP said. If you're planning to be off until the NY think about it hard, as it will be really difficult to get back into the swing. It sounds like you're having a tough time though, so you do need to take some time for yourself.
