To expect a birthday card from the kids?

The kids are both under 3 so clearly not actually going to organise this themselves! DH has been really busy at work (as per usual) and got a card for me from him but nothing from the kids-didn’t even write their names on his card. I’m a bit miffed. It’s my first birthday after having DD so I’ve never had a birthday card from her. Am I being unreasonable to be a bit upset about not getting a ‘Mummy’ card?

YANBU it's not too difficult to pick up 2 cards rather than 1, you deserve a Mum cars

Does he normally buy two cards then, or put child’s name in his one? Maybe he doesn’t realise that’s something you would like?

I have had ‘Mummy’ cards from DS before (before DD arrived and chaos descended!). I’d like to think he knows I’d like it as I always do cards and presents from the kids for him for birthdays and Christmas. Then again I sort all the cards and presents for all his family too-but I think that’s pretty standard??

You sound like hard work. He obviously remembered and got you a card, but you're annoyed that he didn't get you a second card as well signed by the kids.

YABU. It's hardly a big deal the he got you one card instead of two.

I feel sorry for him. He'll never meet such strict standards.

I honestly don't get it. You're upset because your husband didn't pretend that your less than one-year old daughter sent you a birthday card? I bet he has no idea that this is a big deal for you or why it would be.

YANBU but you need to tell him that you are upset so that he won't do it again.

pippa eastmids thanks for commenting-that’s why I asked! I wouldn’t say I have strict standards it’s maybe just what I was used to growing up and perhaps it’s not the norm for everyone. Maybe I’ll cut him a bit of slack

I'd feel sad if DP hadn't organised a,card for me from the children when they were that age.

But then again the ones DP got and wrote on their behalf recent were binned in big clear out and I kept all the ones my children wrote/drew for me.

I don’t get it either. You’re upset because your husband (who did get a card) failed to pretend your daughter had also bought a card? Life’s too short.

Well, DD will probably "forget" to get your DH one for his birthday, won't she?

And DH will ruin it by not caring

The ones they are involved in buying when they are older and can understand the process will be worth much more to you, I promise...
