To be gutted by the empty houses here?

Not in the UK. Live in Queensland, Australia.
Have just moved to a beautiful rural town on the coast, have a gorgeous home and other houses here are v similar.
However, most of them are empty!
I have been here for only a short amount of time, I pay $230 a week for my 3 bed home and similar homes are being rented out to holiday makers at about $750-$2000 a week. But most of them are empty anyway, they'll start to fill up soon in the run up to Xmas then will be lower priced and empty ish until the winter, then until Xmas in summer next year.
Aibu to find this quite sad? The nearest "permanent" resident is 7 doors down, the rest of the homes are empty (not even tourists staying in them)
Am I being ridiculous to find this a bit upsetting and a waste? It's really sad to see so many beautiful homes lying empty!
Dh says I am. Blush

YABU. They're holiday lets. What do you want exactly? If you want a thriving community then move somewhere else? Confused

I live in S.A. and there are small towns like that here...it's normal.

Thought so,
I understand they are holiday lets. Moving here was not a choice, unfortunately (work related) But we likely won't stay forever. I understand what you're saying though. I shall accept my unreasonableness!
It just seems a waste, to me, is all.

My son lives in a tiny village that triples in size over the summer months. It really does affect the people who live there year round. But it’s the current economy, and may take a generation or two to change.

It's not a waste. It's a place for people to holiday.

There won't be enough work around which will be why it's not a place people live all year round.
