To try and convert my buisness into a charity?

It falls within the description of a charities act and does benefit the public.

I'm just looking to take a small sallery from it slightly above min wage.

I see big gyms like Nuffield are run as a charity.

Charity registration is quite long winded and takes ages. You could consider other structures like CICs that have not for profit elements.

Worth getting advice or info from your local CVS or equivalent before taking the leap.

Depends what is your business and how does it benefit the public?

Why would you just want a salary slightly above nmw?

Itsgonnabeacoldone · 16/11/2017 12:47

Thanks that's a good idea, it's a community project type buisness. I'm content at that level and have enough to live the life I want. Preciously had a bit of a melt down with a high stress long hours job.

If it fits the brief go for it. There's lots more paperwork and regulations though. DH converted a business to a charity and there was a lot of work to be done.

I’d depends if the costs of getting the status and compliance long term costs more or less than your tax obligations.

Bear in mind any assets ,if a charity, can never be returned to you: if/when you close, all assets must be passed to another charity.
Unless you're seeking donations and grants, what advantage is there to becoming a charity? What are you trying to achieve by this change?
And, the trustees of a charity can, in some circumstances, have personal liability.
The directors of a limited liability company have more protection.

Would be great if more could do it too.
