Can’t keep honking my horn!

Hey,
Long time lurker, and I know you guys like a parking thread...
So I live in a terrace that backs on to another terrace. I can park in my back yard, as all around me is resident parking only and my pass ran out last week (yes I know, but I have a space in my yard)
Anyway...
I go down the snicket to park in my yard this morning and there’s a van parked in the snicket in front of my yard.
I’ve beeped my horn a few times.
I’ve knocked on the doors of the houses near and around the van is parked.
What else can I do please??
I’ve tried to attach a pic, my yard is the one with the open garage door.

Can’t keep honking my horn!

Oops meant to put - no ones answering the doors.
I know someone is in the house though (probably the builder who owns the van!) because he was looking at me through a window and studiously ignoring me waving at him!

Shit on the windscreen.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 16/11/2017 08:42

Lean on bonnet heavily and set off his alarm?
Peer through windscreen to see if there is any paperwork which identifies company driver works for? (there won't be any, just a dozen copies of The Sun)

LillianaVess · 16/11/2017 08:44

Hi - Lola As much as that’s a great idea I don’t think I could manage that!
Breakfast - I will try that now, thank you!

Why did you leave when you seen him ? If he is blantenlty ignoring you I would keep banging. Is the owner of the house there ?

I'd shout move your car or your windows are going in you twat !!!

Seeline · 16/11/2017 08:45

Leave your car in front of the van so that the van has to reverse out of the lane?
Jump on the van and hope it sets off the alarm - might entice the owner out
I assume there is no writing on the side of the van giving phone numbers? Or a card on the dash?
report it to the police/council as an abandoned vehicle - is it taxed/MOTd?

RB68 · 16/11/2017 08:46

Make out like you are going to rob his tools he will be out like a shot

He was in an upstairs window in the back. Waited 10 mins knocking hard, figured he won’t bother after that

It’s the cleanest white van ever it’s creepy
No papers or even a chewing gum packet. Must be a serial killer haha

What an arse this would infuriate me. Do you have a sledge hammer.

RB68 · 16/11/2017 08:50

Not much help getting out but if it is a right of way it needs to be kept clear so I would write a note that states this is a right of way/access and needs to be left clear - if you can't park so people can pass then you need to park elsewhere.

I suspect people think its unused and only you are using and only recently. People have no clue re right of access - we have had issues on ours more recently. With more home deliveries its like piccadilly circus and we don't have a turning point so they will turn on our parking area, driving over our verges and hedge and lawn - all our property and land even the access route - effin annoying. All because they can't be arsed to reverse

backstreetsback · 16/11/2017 08:50

call the police. He's blocking you access to your property. I had a friend who accidentally blocked someone's drive when she drove into work at the local hospital for a night shift. Some how the police found her from the car registration and bleeped her oncall bleep at work! Seriously do it. He's being an ignorant twat and deserves it

LillianaVess · 16/11/2017 08:52

It’s a back alley so they should really know people are using it. It was bin day yesterday so I bet he moved then!
I’m currently having a cigarette while leans against his van in view of the windows rocking it a little to see if the alarm goes off
This is my one day off work! I’m getting a bit belligerent now

Queenofthedrivensnow · 16/11/2017 08:53

Please at least call them for advice. I called them about customers parking on top of the pavement by a shop next to my house so the kids pretty much had to walk in the traffic. They didn’t think it was silly at all and were quite helpful

Queenofthedrivensnow · 16/11/2017 08:54

Take a photo including the reg plate

Oddmanout · 16/11/2017 08:54

Shit on the windscreen made me laugh haha

A sign saying move your van you twat or I'll call the police isn't a bad idea. I assume this is making you late for work too?

scurryfunge · 16/11/2017 08:55

Are there any restrictions on the alley itself? If not police won't assist with access to your yard. ( different if the van is blocking your access from your yard to the highway).

blueskyinmarch · 16/11/2017 08:55

I assume you are trying to come in rather than leave? If you have no-where to go just leave your car in front of the van? If he needs to to move to let him out you can ignore him ( for a while anyway!). Will you be blocking anyone else?

Laiste · 16/11/2017 09:00

Ah right so he's blocking your access to put your car in your yard.

I think i'd park elsewhere and then put a notice on his van saying 'Don't block the alley (snicket?) residents need access'.

I'd have a google of the law regarding blocking access rather than exits.

LillianaVess · 16/11/2017 09:02

Whoop!!!
Called 101 and was speaking on the phone loudly next to the van and he LIKE MAGIC came out!!

OP posts:
LillianaVess · 16/11/2017 09:02

Told him he can’t park there but he seemed to lose the ability to speak English at that point after chatting for a few minutes with me 🙄

OP posts:
jazzandh · 16/11/2017 09:03

get a car jack out, set up by his wheel as if you are going to remove it!

LillianaVess · 16/11/2017 09:04

I couldn’t leave my car there cause then I’d be blocking too.
And I really can’t afford a parking ticket this week and the whole of my area is resident parking so I didn’t mind waiting 90 minutes to get him to move.
Thanks all for your help!

BrutusMcDogface · 16/11/2017 09:08

I'm glad you solved your parking issue!

I'm delighted that you've taught me a new word: "snicket"! Thank you! Grin
