To negotiate my phone bill?

My 24 month phone contract with Vodafone ends soon. It’s my first phone contract in my name, although I have been a Voda customer since 2011 but the previous contract was under my dad’s name (I started paying the bill from my bank when I was 17 but stupidly never transferred the contract to my name).

I have never cancelled a phone contract before or negotiated with a network provider to improve my tariff/lower the monthly cost. I definitely want to try but I don’t really know what to say/ask for and was hoping you could advise me??

I’m planning on keeping my phone and going on a 12 month sim only deal. Through work I can get 25% off contracts with EE. I’m currently paying £44 a month for a measly 10GB of data with voda and I can get a sim only EE contract for £20 with 25GB data & Spotify, i would like Vodafone to match that...

Just say that, I didn't even haggle mine and they were falling over themselves to improve it :) my husband has a SIM only contract with Tesco for something like £6 a month, probably not much data though!

They've got this as just an offer for anyone on Vodafone at present - it also includes Spotify or now tv, if you use Spotify that saves you £9.99 a month which is good.

Or phone and say what ee can do and that you're going to cancel and I'm almost sure they will match it. I've been with them for years, I find them very good.

Just go with Pay as you go if you are keeping the phone, that way if they annoy you you can just move to another provider, also if something happens to the phone and you need to get another on contract you won’t be stuck paying for a sim only contract as well.
You will need to get the pac number I think it is called to keep your number and get the phone unlocked so you can use any provider, both are easy to do

DP and I both have SIM only deals with 3. He pays £18 pcm and I pay £12. Both have unlimited calls and texts, I think but I have less data. I've previously used GiffGaff but didn't think that their network coverage was as good (although they were slightly cheaper).

Definitely negotiate. We have had multiple contracts with Vodafone for 10+ years and get great deals with them. I have unlimited calls, texts and data for £19 per month.

Witsender · 16/11/2017 08:30

I would just change. Giff gaff have great packages and run on O2 so good coverage.

If you do choose to stay definitely negotiate.

lljkk · 16/11/2017 08:33

DH does this all the time. He phones the networks back & forth until they stop offering to give better deal.

Firesuit · 16/11/2017 08:56

I see that giffgaff sim-only will give you unlimited data (and calls and texts) for 20 pounds, though they slow the data connection once you've used 9GB. Unless you are watching video I'm not sure this matters.

Thanks everyone Smile so helpful. I didn’t realise network providers would be so willing to negotiate and match others

I’m buying a new iPhone next year, haven’t decided which one but want to get my reduce my monthly bill as low as possible as I’ll end up with a cheaper line rental and a better tariff overall. I would prefer staying with voda as I have heard EE can be a bit shit

RJnomore I did see that earlier thank you, however my contract doesn’t end until January and that offer expires this month. Also the EE deal is a bit betterGrin

fucksakefay great advice thank you Smile I have always bought a new device in the past so this is all new to me.

GiffGaff’s throttling would annoy me as I regularly get near my current limit. Interestingly 3 have a £17pm / 30GB sim only deal which is great. No Spotify though so I’d still have to spend an extra £5 a month (students get it half price). Wonder if Vodafone would match that
