I'm going on a work 'fun day' on Saturday, it's a whole weekend with an event, my boss won the weekend in a charity auction. This includes the event, free bars and VIP stuff for the event plus a meal at a particular restaurant. I called the restaurant to check out vegan options and got a flat 'no' all vege options are prepared with egg and cheese. That's fine, I'm happy to eat before hand and stick some snacks in my bag if I get hungry later. my AIBU is I don't want to look like a rude dickhad while they all eat.

Can you order a salad?

HeddaGarbled · 15/11/2017 23:52

Side salad?

Sandsunsea · 15/11/2017 23:54

They must do a soup? Or chips? Or bread and vinegar? Bowl of olives?

MrsHathaway · 15/11/2017 23:55

They said all - which may mean most stuff is prepared off site. But ffs you'd think they could open a bag of salad and fry some chips.

Imalloutofoptions · 15/11/2017 23:56

It's a churrasscaria (forgive spelling) so men to order from.

What would I do? I would sit and have a drink and carry on as normal. Yes, if you fancy a bit of salad have some but there's really no need.

It's something I've done many times. People don't [in my experience] take much notice beyond the odd mild enquiry.

Not a big deal unless you make it one.

Imalloutofoptions · 15/11/2017 23:58

Sorry for spelling mistakes. I am so adept at making vegan meals out of sides! I'm happy to eat beforehand but am I going to look horrible for not eating at the restaurant while everyone else is? I'm not meaning to be annoying

If it's a Brazilian all you can eat place then the salad sections are usually really good and vegan friendly.

SilverySurfer · 16/11/2017 00:02

I'm neither a vegan nor a vegetarian but if I were I would eat beforehand and take some snacks with me. Tell your boss before the event, so you don't have to go into lengthy explanations on the day. The restaurant are a bit dickish and short sighted not to have a single vegan dish on the menu. Will you have a problem with drinking the wine? I know some are clarified using animal products.

I'm sure your boss will understand and hope you have a great day.

Crispbutty · 16/11/2017 00:02

If you have the easy going attitude at the meal that you have on the thread I can't see anyone having a problem at all either. It doesn't sound like you are going to demand they make a vegan menu up for you. Hopefully the salad section will be good. I go to Preto quite often and their buffet is very vegan and veggie friendly.

Sandsunsea · 16/11/2017 00:03

Veg kebab.

aaahhhBump · 16/11/2017 00:04

Is it viva Brazil? My OH loves it but alas I'm veggy thought it would be pointless to go. Have just checked their menu and they now do veggy but it is Halloumi, so not helpful for yourself. Did find this on the kids menu though...

Salada Colorida

Rainbow salad made of cucumber, sweetcorn, cherry tomatoes, pomegranates, lemon juice and potato sticks.

Maybe they could do a double portion.

LinoleumBlownapart · 16/11/2017 21:42

If it's a churrascaria they probably have Brazilian beans and rice and a good salad selection. Can't you just ask for the veggie option without the cheese or egg based food?

tigggga · 16/11/2017 22:14

You shouldn’t feel annoying for having principles! I’m not vegan myself but have a great respect for people who manage to do it. I’m sure they’ll be able to make you a salad, and if not just enjoy a few drinks. I bet no one will notice, and any questions can be dealt with with a smile and “there isn’t a vegan option so I ate earlier”. Have fun!

QuiteLikely5 · 16/11/2017 22:18

The restaurant in question will 100% have vegetables that you can eat.
