To expect answers for my ds?

My ds will be 5 in two months. He was poorly a few weeks ago with a cold and loss of appetite but I noticed his lymph nodes on one side of neck were very large but not sore. I took him to the out of hours and he was given antibiotics for ear infection. He got better but the lymph nodes are no smaller, they are so large you can see them without feeling. Still just in the one side.
I took him out of hours again yesterday and was told take him to GP urgently. So I did this morning. Gp was reluctant to do any investigation. He has lost weight due to loss of appetite. I lost my rag and demanded they at least give him a blood test as that's what the out of hours doctor recommended.
So after a whole day up at the hospital waiting, we have had his bloods taken.
However I am now thinking if they come back clear, should I ask for any further investigation? I really can't help but worry about the cause and feel responsible as his mum.
My GP is very dismissive by nature which obviously isn't good!

Has your DC recently had the flu vaccine?

Yes he has had it, a few weeks ago.

It's not uncommon for lymph nodes to remain swollen for a while after a sickness,

The blood test came back clear but had no explanation as to why his lymph nodes are so swollen still one one side, you can actually see them! And losing weight too, loss of appetite, should he have more tests?

My ds lymph nodes have been swollen now for about 5 years, sometimes they just don’t go back down. I’ve been to the docs countless times about it & that’s what they’ve told me.

He also had them straight after an ear infection which was straight after the MMR 🤔 & his appetite drastically decreased & he lost weight. Not implying cause but it’s a bit coincidental.

My DS had the same thing when he was about 4 or 5. Several minor infections on the trot, lost weight, looked grey and his lymph nodes swelled on one side of his neck.
Doctor really helpful, told me it was unlikely to be serious but referred him for urgent tests to put my mind at rest (straight from surgery to children's ward at hospital - really calmed me down - not!!).
Tests all came back clear. Dr said lymph nodes unlikely to go down, but as DS grew they'd become less prominent / not noticeable. He said it was v. common, but they always test, just to catch the really rare ones who are properly ill.
DS is 11 now, had no more trouble, and you can't see the lymph nodes any more.

Wow igivein! What a different reaction to the one I got! I'm glad your ds is ok now. It could be a combination of the flu vaccine, ear infection and all that. I just wish I'd been told all this by doctor. The one at the out of hours got me worried then the regular GP made me feel like a wally!

I have a enlarged node in my neck after an tooth absece many years ago.
It was looked in to but found to be perfectly normal,
, I am not a doctor but I think a blood test being normal is an good indicator that nothing too sinister is going on.

Thank you, Spoke to doc he said if they still swollen in 3 weeks they'll send him for an ultrasound on them but he did say the blood tests didn't show anything worrying so I'm ok with that

Sorry, I mentioned the flu vaccine as he loss of appetite is a common side effect. Swollen lymph nodes are also a side effect of the regular vaccine so it may be connected that. Just a thought...
