We have a huge crate of Lego pieces and a box full of instructions. Would like to re assemble some things but AIBU? Is this mission impossible?

I did this so we could sell sets for a lot more money than just a box of Lego. It took ages but was very therapeutic. Got the kids involved as well with a promise of a share of the profits. I separated into different colours before I started which helped a lot.

I need a system. Separating into colours sounds good

If you sort it into colours/type that'll be a start. I remember when my son used to get these big sets. He liked to assemble but not so much the sorting, I found the sorting quite relaxing so it worked out well
What sets have you got?

We did this over the summer with DS's Lego. We sorted into colours, then pulled out the pieces we needed for each set and bagged them up in ziplock bags as we went.

I did this with quite a big box.
It’s not as hard as it looks at first. You do spend ages looking for some bits but it’s very satisfying.

My parents brought my childhood Lego over for DS. Didn't have any of the instructions and spent ages looking them up online before rebuilding them.

DS loved it and has quite a large collection of his own now.

Do it. Put The Lego Movie on in the background, have lots of tea/coffee handy and lots of tubs to separate the parts out into. We actually bought plastic boxes with lots of compartments in for the smaller pieces.

Sounds like a great way to spend a weekend!

Ah yes, lots of grey! Millennium Falcon here and another big one I can't remember the name, not the Death Star
He did the big City police station, then before he went off Lego some of the Modular Buildings. He's grown up now but all this is still in his room, he won't get rid, I'd be sad too to see it go I think.
Every Christmas and birthday it was Lego, so you can imagine how much of it there is

we have a huge box of jumbled up lego sets, and I am saving it as a project that younger DD and I can sort through together when her older sister heads off to University next year, as she will no doubt miss her company (they share a room). Then she can have the option of selling it or rebuilding it, as she does still quite like lego and sometimes gets out the not muddled sets to build.

Ooh, I'm in 'Phase 1' of my own Project Lego. It's very satisfying! Found these coloured drawers which are perfect. Moving on to recreating the sets now. I refuse to buy anymore until this is done...

Do you have the original instruction books ?

Oh my God, you have my sympathy @scrabble1. I’ve got as far as separating into colours, but rebuilding the sets is hard work.
Now I fully understand why they say don’t mix the bags on the instructions

Ooo a glass of wine whilst doing it sounds perfect. Our dd got given a big box of Lego but no instructions. I used the minifigures to identify the sets and then found the instructions online. 2 days later we had 6 Harry Potter sets built - worth more than £100 :)

This sounds like a lovely way to spend an afternoon. I got a big box in a charity shop for a tenner - looked it up online and there were 2 Lego movie sets and about six star wars sets. My children were delighted.

Yes positive where are the drawers from?!

Google 'Really Useful Boxes'. Ours were from an office supplies shop but I know that Argos and Hobbycraft sell them or online suppliers. I can't tell you how excited I was when I saw them!

We did this. Buy a box of Ikea sandwich bags, bigger the better, and put each set into one with the correct booklet. Then the bags can be kept in the big tub you currently use.
