...to think it uncouth for an adult to be swigging from a large carton of Tropicana at the checkout.

Woman in queue behind us (very short queue by most people's standards, just one in front and her behind me) was unloading her trolley and had opened one of her several 1 1/2 or 2l cartons of Tropicana and was swigging away, replaced cap and placed it on the conveyor. There is a coffee shop in the store so she could have stopped for a drink before shopping or once through the checkout.

bungalowbelle · 16/04/2007 17:46

I worked at a restaurant in Battersea.

Zeitgeist · 16/04/2007 17:46

Wondrous Fio! Where did you come by that picture...Saatchi and Saatchi will be queueing up to use her in the Tropicana ads....and why not?

bungalowbelle · 16/04/2007 17:51

I used to swig fruitshoots concealed inside brown paper bags in the park. Then I had a better idea and started decanting fruitshoots into an old tropicana carton to appear cool and posh.

paulaplumpbottom · 16/04/2007 17:52

lol, you could give your kids fruit shoots in paper bags

PMSL at this thread.

I live near Batters and to keep standards as high as possible I erect one of those little yellow plastic sandwich boards in the aisle - but instead of 'wet floor!' it says 'thirsty and desparate'. I put it up every time before swigging from bottles of that nice English sherry - stops people tutting and I can have my drink in peace.

It annoys me when people eat or drink things in the supermarket.

to be fair I fall into the 'supportive smiler' category and have never tut tuted at anyone in my life (far too polite).

If I see people eating in supermarkets I am thinking its really rude, uncouth downmarket etc etc etc etc but outwardly I am smiling serenely.

Blu · 16/04/2007 18:02

oh, it's only too true, Batters, only too true. And were you there in Lidl last week when they put up the 'trip hazard' sign? 17 teenagers high on glue and magic mushrooms killed trying to get out. The I went to CarpetRite and went through the back into the 'Large Rear Showroom' and had to rush straight back to Somerfirlds with my 'thirsty and desparate' sign to recover.

I tried to swig from a flask yesterday (fresh juice with ice cubes in my stainless steel unbreakable) and poured it all down me. Very uncouth, and it attracts bees. I'd be just as bad with Tropicana.

2shoes · 16/04/2007 18:04

ooh I've had a few male head shakers (oo-er) we must be really common. pmsl. I did once see a man with pierced nipples in Sainsbury's, but I was too polite to stare.
