Private Ultrasound Scans

DoctorChris · 09/11/2017 19:18

Parents should be very careful when booking a private ultrasound scan. The country is awash with these places and in almost all cases the equipment used is vastly inferior to that used in the NHS. I have seen some dreadful images from some of my patients. One of the largest companies in the country is using aged equipment and working its operators under far too much pressure. Be very careful where you spend your money

Dr?

I used Baby bond in Belfast and they had really modern equipment with 4d and all the staff were so professional.

A lot of sonographers work for the private clinics too. In my last pregnancy my midwife was telling me all about her other job at baby bond.

It’s pretty standard for the equipment used by private companies to be inferior to that used by the NHS. Given that private antenatal scans aren’t used for diagnosis though I can’t see that there’s anything dangerous about it.

I’d have to disagree, the images I got from my private scans were lovely and it was a different experience then a medical scan. All about relaxing and bonding. Finding out the sex was lovely as they couldn’t see it at my anomaly scan and were (understandably) not willing to waste time looking.

Erm. Okay. Thank you.

I think.

My private scan pictures were much better than the nhs ones, I have no problem with that as they are there to check the baby is ok and not get a decent pic.
Dd1 looked like Homer Simpson and dd2 had what looked like a Frenchman in a beret in there with her Confused

Does seem a very odd post though and I'm sure an nhs sonographer will be along soon to tell you that they're under great pressure too.

I had a private scan and the images I received were much better, the staff were amazing and I got to take my oldest son. I did lots of research before I went. Very happy with my decision

As long as you research where you go, it’s fine. I use a company which has highly trained midwives and sonographers with high tech machines. They show all their credentials and don’t just run scans but clinics, birthing classes and even placenta encapsulation.
