To lie about grades?

I graduated last year with a third after suffering with depersonalisation for 6 months. I studied something that I somewhat enjoyed at A-level but using the word hated at uni is an understatement. But that's not the point, but I've applied for the perfect grad scheme (which is nothing to do with my degree) and left out my degree classification as they've asked for a min of a 2:1 (like the majority of jobs these days).

This is my issue, the HR(?) team have left a message saying they need some more information for my application. I'm pretty sure they want my degree classification.

My mum (the Christian lady who believes using someone else's left over parking ticket is deceitful) has told me to say I've got a 2:1. I'm tired of having so many doors closed before I've started but surely this cannot be pulled off?

I don't think i'll lie, as I'm a fairly anxious person at the best of times, and I wouldn't want the guilt/anxiety of being caught out. Maybe just some nice words that one day someone will look past my grades.

I wouldn't lie OP. I would let them know about what you want through at university.

They will probably ask for a transcript so lying about your grade is unlikely to work.

They'll probably ask for a copy of your certificate if you get the job anyway so don't lie. Maybe do a masters to shore up your poor grade? A 3rd is unlikely to get you onto any grad scheme TBH. Sorry

Of course you can’t lie!!!! I’m shocked you would even consider it. But on top of that what will you do when they ask for copies of your degree!?

Don’t be stupid - you have to submit certificates at the point of any job offer!!

Unfortunately, this is a no-no. It's technically fraud and employers take a very dim view of it.

How unfair is that on others who actually have the grades. They'll want transcripts anyway. Don't do it

Don’t lie as they will ask for the certificate as others have said. Not all grad schemes need a 2:1. For example Big Four accountancy firms such as EY are moving away from looking at academic grades and base selection on the application process instead so you could try them. (They offer more interesting areas than just accountancy.)

Alternatively you could apply somewhere smaller to train/get experience and then work your way up.

They would ask for your degree certificate so no point lying. Also it's not like you've narrowly missed a 2:1, you got a third.

They will double check with the university-they normally do. You should just go and do a masters or sonething.

I'll be honest, you wont get on a graduate scheme with a third but there are a million other openings out there for you. Good luck

Of course they will want to see the piece of paper - fortunately for the sake of all the honest people out there. I am appalled at your mother’s attitude and amazed you would even consider doing such a thing.

I don't want to upset OP further, but I'm not sure how good her odds are of getting onto the sort of master's course that's likely to significantly improve her employability.

Ignore the moral issue, if the HR team (or whatever team) is bothering calling you to get the info, they will check it fully so they will end up with the real grade.

For at least that very reason, do not lie, it won't get you anywhere.

What you should do is trying to see how you can work around it: if the scheme doesn't take you, is there any other way to reach your end goal?Good luck!

Good grief.

At the very least, they will want a reference from your university. You're unlikely to get onto a masters with a third but what about a post-grad diploma? Not sure of the UK system, but where I live they are a level 8, same as a degree, and it gives students who performed poorly on their undergrad a chance to turn it around on a one year course.
