School photos are crazy expensive

For our school you can’t just buy a 5” by 7” photo. You have to buy a pack with a variety of photos ranging from £11.50 for 1 10” x 7” to £32.95 for 15 of the same picture in different sizes.

I just want 3 5” x 7” pictures for me and grandparents but you can’t buy this, why??

What do your schools do?

We bought every year from reception to yr 6, then yr 7 & 8 (only as she’d changed schools). The year 11 ones are due at the end of the month & they do different groups (friendship etc) so she’s asked for one with her cousins, which will actually be a nice thing to have. SIL and I are already dreading the cost though!

We almost never bother buying them. We have thousands of lovely photos of our children, and the school ones are rarely good. We bought a class photo for each child (usually taken in year 6) as they’re a nice memento for the child, and one group one, one year where we had three children in primary school at the same time.

I’m not sure why they are so popular really - back in the days when photography was rarer and more expensive I can understand that having an annual photo of your children was a nice thing to have, but nowadays there seems little point.

This year my child’s school photos had modern poses - so my son was pictured standing with one hand on his hip and the other hand made into a telephone shape and held up, all on a bright green background. Why would I want a photo like that?!
