AIBU to think periods are normal? Disney take note!

We've just returned from a few days in Disneyland Paris. Things were a bit manic before we went away so typically I forgot something - sanitary towels. I came on while I was there and ran out of the emergency supply I have in my rucksack and needed some more. Despite being a family resort with plenty of teenagers and women of childbearing age Disney seem to think periods are something to be ashamed of. There are no dispensers in the toilets and the shops there only stock Disney tat rather than any essential items. Instead you can only get them from the stroller hire place at the front of the park - cue a 20 minute wait in my case. I got to the front of the queue to be told they had run out -
in my limited French I managed to ask if they had any sanitary products because I needed them. Reluctantly the woman checked the stock and found some. When I finally did get some they were reminiscent of the maternity towels I used but needs must.

For future reference all hotels stock a decent selection of sanitary products and you don't need to be a resident of the hotel to visit the shop.

I must admit its not a problem I discovered - I bought emergency tampons in a couple of the shops in the Village

I didn't think to ask at the hotel - but surely they should be more readily available in the parks without walking to the hotels or village (where I didn't see any)? If not every toilet they should be available in some.

I’ve been going to Disney Paris since it opened and this is not a problem I’ve ever encountered , as pp said the hotel shops sell all sorts of stuff you may have forgotten which you could easily have discovered by asking at the information desk at City Hall Main Street , which is no more than a slow 10-15 minute walk from anywhere in the main park .

Disney don't want to ruin the magic! Why on earth would they want to stock up on toilet essentials in the toilets fgs! You never hear Cinderella complaining of her heavy flow!

No OP YANBU. They should be stocked up behind the till area somewhere and should most definitely have machines in the toilet.

I love the way when someone forgets something and cant immediately find a replacement prodcut its everyone elses fault.

I havent seen a sanitary dispenser in any resturant, pub, theme park, zoo, or public toilet in the UK for years. Condoms and paracetamol by the bucket load, but no sanitary wear.

Oh god! This post has given me flashbacks. I remember being at Disneyland Paris as a teenager about 20 years ago and getting caught out in the same way. We found a machine in one of the restaurant toilets and the pad that came out was about an inch thick. I can vividly remember watching the parade while feeling huuuugely uncomfortable and self conscious about the gigantic mattress down my shorts.

I had a headache when there, popped to the first aid window where they happily give out painkillers FOR FREE!!!!

Then my flip flops broke cue me staggering about unable to walk, a member of staff noticed and asked me to choose a new pair of flip flops all on Disney

I purchased a travel mug and asked for a receipt, the till wasn’t producing these so I was asked to take the mug free of charge

Basically they do stock sanitary products but too far away for your liking and not the usual brand you’d buy yourself

What about those who aren't expecting it? Been there. Bloody awful trying to find sanitary wear when you've come on for the second time that month.

Really Dunk? Just thinking that recently I've seen them in the toilets in a local pub and in Tesco and also in the toilets at Piccadilly Station in Manchester.

All the public toilets in the all service stations I've ever been in have sanitary dispensers, Dunk. Ditto most of the public toilets in the towns.

Projecting much? They simply assume you will be more organised, like french women. Or able to get to any of the shops or hotels as mentioned by pp.

Yes I know IABU for not being organised - I even had that feeling in the airport that I knew I had forgotten something. I did discover where to get them from by asking in a shop but and yes it was only a few minutes walk to the front but there was a
slow moving queue.

As we stayed in a Disney hotel there weren't supermarkets or corner shops nearby as there would be on any other holiday I have been on.

I just think with the thousands of visitors every day that must equate to hundreds on their period (not to mention the princesses) so a little help would not go amiss?

And actually I have seen plenty of sanitary dispensers lately - plus nappies in our local zoo (and a pregnancy test in a pub once!!l.

Disney probably just cut costs wherever they can, like every other business, and stocking up in 20 locations is probably easier and quicker than checking 100 vending machines (or whatever the real numbers are).

Coming from a French family, this has cracked me right up. My mother once forgot to wear a skirt when leaving the house.

I don't see how not being able to easily find the products means that Disney think periods are something to be ashamed of. I think t would be a bit weird to walk into a Disney shop and see a shelf of tampons and pads. Just because they aren't in the toilets or on display, it doesn't mean they aren't available. Mountain and mole hill spring to mind.

Do they not sell them in the shops by the train station? A bit of a trek to the front, but better than nothing.

And I have noticed that you don't see dispensers as often now. Possibly because shops tend to be open later these days do people will pop to the mini sainsburys instead of paying a quid for one?

Well it was annoying for you, but turning that into Disney thinking periods are shameful is a bit of a leap.

Mind you, the Scottish nationalists on my fb are frothing today because marks and sparks have failed to say Scotland instead of Great Britain on their 'country of origin' list for whisky.

Why don’t women just carry sanitary products always? Even if you have already had your period this month or are not expecting it for another week just bring them anyway.

Surely you just take some in your wash bag? Or you always have some in your handbag anyway?

Yep, I think Disney can be blamed for many things, but this isn't close to being one of them.
