I posted about finding my DD school SEN records (ed psych reports, learning plans etc) and those of many other kids in the Village Hall store cupboard (next door to the school). And my shock when the Head reported me to the police for theft as I had taken my DD's documents home for safe keeping until I was re-assured they would be held safely. This was after I notified her where the records were - the school had no idea this SEN info was in the Village Hall.
Well, I had already (as many of you kindly advised), notified the Information Commissions office about this and have had a response. They are going to do.....absolutely nothing! They acknowledged that it is 'likely the school has breached principle 7 of the DPA' (likely is as strong as they can say to 'definitely did' without it going to court) but have decided 'no further action is necessary'.
If leaving children's most sensitive information like their psychology reports and who knows what distressing background info when it comes to some kids in care etc in a virtually public store cupboard accessed by half of our village then I wonder in what cases they do take action?
I didn't want anyone hung out to dry for this, we all make mistakes but jeez this is a big one and surely there must be some learnings to be had, processes to be improved? What message does that send out about how important children's personal info is? Grrrrrrrrr!
