Chores for 4 year old

What would you expect of. 4 year old?

At the moment she makes her bed and tidies up her toys but she loves to be independent and is wanting to take on more jobs.

Pairing socks would be good I thought.
What else could a 4 year old do?

Mines
Mills
Chimneys?

Helping to put plates/cutlery away once it's clean and dry?

Aw, she sounds very helpful!

Filling/emptying washing machine?
Folding towels, pj's, vests etc?

Sweeping the kitchen floor? (My 4yo loves doing that).
Putting washing away/sorting it in to piles before.
Dusting (do not let her loose with the polish on your banister).
Taking the recycling out.

Good idea about unloading dishwasher/ putting stuff away.

She helps with unpacking shopping bags sometimes which she loves 😊

She loves being my little helper

She also hands me baby wipes etc. When I’m changing her brothers nappy.

She hangs her wet towel up after a bath/ shower.

Occasionally helps me sort the washing into colours which helps with her sorting skills and also we usually count too

Setting the table, wiping the table after dinner

My DD is 5, and the kind of chores we expect her to complete alongside us are:

• helping to lay the table and help to carry things back into the kitchen once we have finished eating

• straightening throws and re-positioning cushions on the sofa

• making her own bed each morning and general tidying away of toys (although we help clear the toys too)

• feeding the cat

If her Dad or me are having a general clean of the house, she also likes to help wipe surfaces. Her job is the kItchen step! That's very much her choice though. She also sometimes helps to load the washing machine and pour the detergent or softener into the drawer.

I think being self sufficient is so important!

She doesn’t get in trouble for not doing it, but she likes to feel part of what I’m doing 😊

moving laundry from the washing machine to the dryer, or hangig thrm out to dry (with help for big pieces)

putting the washing into or out of the washing machine / dryer for Mummy so she doesn't have to reach down as you are such a better height. This is a made up task unless you genuinely have a bad back, but my kids loved it.

DS has just turned 5. He does the following (not everyday!!!):

• Puts his pjs away in the morning, and put his dirty clothes in the washing basket
• Helps to unpack the shopping and will do things like bring me all the stuff for the fridge so that I csan then put it away
• Unloads dishwasher - cutlery, cups, glasses & plastic containers
• Sets the table
• Tidies cushions
• Carries laundry upstairs for me (small bundles)
• Hoovers
• Organises teddies on his bed in the morning

My little one is four coming up five and for the past year or so has helped loading/unloading the washing machine and dishwasher, putting away dry clothes (I fold, he puts them in the correct drawer), does a clothes collection (Dad lives with us so clothes on the floor is not unusual!), helps putting shopping away, helps with cooking, setting and clearing the table and cleaning the car out, also helps dusting/wiping down and vacuuming (all of his own accord we're not slave driving I promise!)

I know! But by then their will be repercussions for not helping out, whereas now it’s for fun 😊

My boys were emptying the dishwasher at that age, they're still doing it now, at ages 11 and 13, with no moaning because it's so ingrained in them to do it I think they don't even think to moan!

At that age I used to love dusting and polishing furniture.

My just turned 4 year old makes her bed tidies toys (a little) feeds the cat helps a little with putting washing away. She likes helping sometimes with cooking.

She also loves cleaning the floor with those floor wipes. Very throughout
