Why don’t they RSVP or decline?!

Were doing a Halloween party this weekend, so excited!

We have sent 10 invites out, over a week ago,

We’ve had 3 RSVP at this point. It was hardly going to be a huge thing, but a nice kind of size for an at home party,

I’m here 3 days before the party, and I’ve no idea how many to prepare food for.
Barely seems worth putting on a huge spread for four kids.

Am I being unreasonable to expect that a parent sends a text and says yes they’ll be there, or no, sorry?!

I don’t want to prepare for only the children who RSVP b cause if others turn up, I don’t want there to not be enough food!

Surely it’s really rude?

Telstar-bring your kids, in laws, neighbours, whoever you can round up. I’m literally prepared for 20 adults!

As a lady on the plump side I felt it only right to plan the most amazing party food 😊😊😊😊😊

The only people who I can contact have rsvpd already- were fairly new at the school

Just feels so rude, it leaves the person planning not having any idea how many to prepare for... don’t even get me started on the boxes of krispy Kremes i pre ordered, or the celebration cake... I’m fairly certain that I can’t force the children to eat 6 doughnuts then cake each.🙃

I think I would buy things I could bring out if need be. Keep pizza in the freezer. Have crisps in the cupboard. Salad in the fridge. Then just see how many arrive. I find a lot of people will text the day/night before. It's because they are either racing around, haven't seen the invite (in the bottom of a school bag), or gone on holiday for half term, or their dc can't decide whether to go to football practice or come to the party. It's rarely about you.

We have nothing going on here for halloween. I'd have bitten your hand off.

I concur with the OP above who said get stuff that won't be ruined if only 5 turn up, and you don't have to put much out - like packet stuff and frozen stuff. Hope everyone comes.

People can be selfish bastards. They probably want to make their minds up five minutes before the party starts, thus keeping their own options open for as long as possible.

Massively annoying! I take it you’ve got the food already? Freeze what you can and bring it out as and when needed. It’s not hard to send a text!!

Very rude. It's not hard to give a simple yes or no answer or even 'not sure yet but as soon as I know I'll let you know'.

It’s very rude not to reply.... However to my shame I have done this once or twice simply through a combination of disorganisation and busyness, rather than anything deliberate, and have then felt mortified when i realised. If you still want them to come, I’d contact them to check - a quick text or msg.

My sister in the US tells me this is commonplace. So along with celebrating Halloween, eating junk food and dressing appallingly this may be another US trait being adopted.

The OP is not unreasonable to expect a reply.

Some people are rude and some are just dis-organised.

My sister never sends an RSVP for anything, you have to chase her. Her reason for not sending an RSVP (every time). 'I was working a night shift'!!!
