quite possibly being a massive worrier over nothing.

4 year old DC with temp of 39.5 flushed cheeks and complaining after going for a quick shower (at their request) that their neck hurts.

I know what this can indicate. I went through a nightmare when they were 5 months old with suspected meningitis.

I am trying not to make a panicked decision. Paracetamol brings the fever down temporarily and other than being whingy seems generally ok in himself. no other symptoms.

contact last Saturday with a child who presented with sores and diagnosed with hand foot and mouth on the Monday.

Should I be taking him to be seen at out of hours doctor or should I just watch and wait?

Call 111, they may suggest OOH or A&E

Quartz2208 · 22/10/2017 18:55

I would call 111 as well as that is a high fever

Aquamarine1029 · 22/10/2017 19:06

I would call as well. Better to be safe than sorry. When my daughter was growing up, whenever she was ill, fever or no fever, she ALWAYS had a sore/stuff neck. No matter if it was a cold, stomach virus, whatever. I had several days over the years worried sick about meningitis, so I understand how you feel!

He was fine this morning as suspected 😊
