Hi I tried posting in the conception topics but got no response. I have been sent a letter by my consultant that I can start clomid but I have a 6cm chocolate cyst on one ovary and a couple of others on the other. My question is can clomid make it worse? The cyst hasn’t changed size in all the time I’ve known about it and I have had one child conceived naturally with the cyst at that size. It took years to conceive her though.

There is a suggestion that Clovis and worsen cysts but your probably better Asking your dr for an appointment to discuss it more.

Thanks. I have an appointment with her in December but I’d called her secretary about a blood test I need to repeat- my day 21 which I’d done on the wrong day. Then I had a letter with the envelope for the repeat bloods and a letter saying if I wish I can pick up a prescription for clomid but no information about it so I’m wondering if she just wants me to try it until my appointment so it will really only be for a month or two before I see her. I read you can only take six months worth anyway? Thanks so much for replying as I have been quite unsure about this.

this is quite sophisticated stuff - you need to speak to your doctor, its not something you want to do based on what random uneducated people on a message board say.

You definately need to speak to them.

You should probably be monitored too. Usually the first cycle is a 50mg with a scan to see whether you will ovulate. If that dose fails it then increases on the next cycle.

You asked about the 6 month ruling. I was told that this is in place because there is very little research to show what it does to the body outside this time. This is because researchers would have to give a placebo to part of a group of research participants and let's be honest when it comes to trying for a baby who would want to risk having a placebo.

My personal experience, I had 6 cycles worth. During this time I fell pregnant once which unfortunately ended up in miscarriage. The consultant then offered me something else, I can't remember the name of it (something like letrozole??) it's similar to clomid but it didn't suit me. I was like a raging bull.
When we discussed this he offered me another 3 cycles of clomid but it was off licence and I had to sign a disclaimer.
I'm not saying this is an option for everyone though. I fell pregnant on the 3rd cycle and ds was born in July of this year.
