To be upset with friend

It's my birthday - my first birthday I've ever woken up alone (LTR ended in Feb). My friend of many years was due to come and visit, for brunch and then an exhibition before meeting DP and some other friends for drinks. We arranged to meet at 1130. She still hasn't left. She is around two hours away by train. AIBU to be really upset?? She runs two businesses and is probably busy with things she can't avoid being dragged into but I'm hurt that she's this late and hasn't even offered an explanation. Feel like telling her not to bother now??

Have taken myself for breakfast, coffee and now on my way to the shops to buy myself a present - and going on holiday with DP tomorrow - so still enjoying my day - just feeling really let down...

The lateness with no explanation is very rude - YANBU to be irritated by that, birthday or no birthday.

As to waking up alone, LTR ended etc - you're in another relationship and will be seeing your DP later, so you're not exactly all on your lonesome.

Text your friend you'll be at the exhibition at X o'clock so see her there if she can still make it, and if not go on your own.

If she hasn't 'explained' anything how do you know she hasn't left yet?
I bet she did explain/apologise.

I'm old. I've learned over time not to rely on others to make me happy (birthday or otherwise). Plans change, emergencies happen etc. Do something that makes you happy, if others happen to come along to accompany you - bonus.

It's rude to be late. Especially if the event is important to the other person.

If you written "arranged to meet my friend for lunch and shopping, was really looking forward to it but shes 2hours late and hasn't left home yet" you'd have got more sympathy. Mumsnet don't like birthdays.
