To get a bit irritated with men in shops (light hearted)

I mean in the women's clothes sections of shops. Those men that hang around while their wives look at clothes. They just get in the bloody way don't they. They don't move. How can we look at clothes when there's this big solid immobile body blocking our way... .

AIBU to be irritated with them, or is it just me.

There's no need for blokes to stand awkwardly blocking the bras unless they're actually buying them themselves.

Maybe they want to buy them themselves, but are waiting for you to go away....

Shops worth their salt should provide a couple of chairs in a small waiting area for men waiting for their partners whilst clothes shopping.

It would help everyone's mental health.

Men should just stay home unless they're actively involved in some way. I've never taken my dp shopping, I can't think of anything worse.

I never take my OH clothes shopping. We might go into town together, but I meet him later and he can go look at gadgets etc on his own

Same here. He'd really get on my nerves! Plus, he'd hate every single second of it. I think couples who shop together are a little weird, especially food shopping.

no need to stick together now everyone has their brickphone permanently in their hand. Even if you can't organise a rendezvous in advance, you can phone each other.

Yes. The ones that hover near your shoulder in the underwear department. My dh is a pita as soon as we get anywhere near a shop. Questioning the need to buy anything. Moaning about having a headache....

I can't bear to shop with abyije let alone my DP. I feel under pressure and I'm the one wearing the bloody things so the opinions of others don't matter too much anyway.

My girlfriend takes me shopping, apparently as she values my opinion.

Which is amusing, as she then usually ignores my opinion completely.

Of course I welcome the opportunity to stand awkwardly outside the dressing rooms, inevitably in the women's underwear section, absorbing the glares of every woman who suspects me to be a pervert while trying to read my book. Highlight of my evenings.

Drunk shopping, though... that's one hell of a fun date.

I remember a man creche they had in the Oxford circus topshop in the 90s.
I think it had magazines, a drinks machine and a PlayStation.
I can't remember what it had exactly but I remember my mum commenting on the lack of bored boyfriends outside the fitting room.

I can’t think of anything worse shopping with my partner. Even things he likes he is a complete pain. I don’t get it, if you need the lift or want the company for a brew between browsing send them on their way and text them when you want to meet them again lol.

It usually implies that they’re still in the early stages of the relationship.

It’s hardly a fun morning out hanging round the women’s clothing section awkwardly while your wife tries on 20 diffrent outfits and hates them all!

charmedrose - Sorry I’m probably one of those men that gets in your way but when my wife parks me I’m expected to stay put. If I’m lucky I sometimes get parked on seat but honestly if I have ever gotten in your way I apologise

I seem to remember that my local Debenhams does too.

Although I don't ever take DH shopping, I get that some people can end up with their partner there for expediency or moral support.

But last weekend I took DD shopping. She's 14 so really just needs me to drive her there and pick up the tab. While she tried on clothes, I wandered around and kept an eye on the changing room for when she came out. What I didn't do was to stand somewhere with zero awareness of other people wanting to get past.

If anyone wanted to 'park' me with the serious expectation that I would just stand there and wait, I would want a discussion about how our relationship could/should function more respectfully.

How do they not see that they're in the way??? I get irrationally angry at people who can clearly see a person trying to get past but who insist on waiting to be asked to move. I do feel a little sympathy for blokes in women's clothes shops as there is nowhere for them to be and they clearly don't want to be there. I would hate for my DH to come clothes shopping with me. If we were in town and I wanted to pop in somewhere he'd probably find something else to do like have a quick pint then we'd meet up again later.

The "man crèche" thing sounds hideous. Are men not capable of entertaining themselves when their wives are doing something that doesn't interest them? Awful and infantilising
