It seems whichever park we take the dc and mindees to, there are teenagers larking around on the playground equipment. Poor ds got kicked the other day (by accident, but no apology) by stupid big kid climbing up the slide with his hooded top on back-to-front and, therefore, unable to see what he was doing (stupid stupid idiotic etc etc).

Went to another park yesterday and the same thing was going on - big kids (different ones) with hoods on back-to-front or jumpers tied around their heads.....climbing all over the climbing frame.

Haven't they got anything better to do????

Fair does Ash - can't help you with that sort !!

Londonmamma · 11/04/2007 22:04

Seriously though Ash, is there any way of getting together with other residents to talk about this - strength in numbers. The police will pay more attention to a group of residents acting together than to individual complaints. Your post came after mine, I really don't want to downplay the sort of thing you're experiencing.

had the exact same problem yesterday evening. walked to a lovely park 10 minutes from my house. hadn't thought that because it was 6 o clock it would be full of 16 year olds. i was with my friend and she said, let's go to a different park. so we drove to a park ten minutes away instead of going to the one ten minutes walk away so we could escape them. i wouldn't have been brave enough to ask them to get off. i think i get more intimidated cos some of them probably weren't that much younger than me.

Londonmamma · 11/04/2007 22:05

That's funny nappyaddict 'cos I'm quite old and used to think they'd be rude to me for that very reason!

nallydoolally · 11/04/2007 22:16

i must be brave, i must be brave, i must be brave.....

so i will just smile and say "please can you let my son use the slide?"

i did feel like we had to leave the other day when ds was kicked on the slide, because the big boys laughed and one pointed at ds and said "he's got a really big head!" then ds was upset.

A bit yeah...i can see your point of view though don't get me wrong...but they are just kids
Don't believe there is an age limit to swinging on a swing..or climbing on stuff is there...they have just as much right to use the park and it's play equipment
They are just big kids ...our little ones will be the bigguns one day....they aren't some alien species.
I can remember when ds was 1 (and pfb of course) that 3 year olds were big kids who should know better than to knock into my baby. Of course...by the time he was 3 i realised that he didn't.
Not saying you shouldn't have got an apology btw.

nallydoolally · 11/04/2007 22:32

am just scaredy cat, as said before... i knows that our dc will be that age... and most are probably polite, etc etc... and am beginning to realise that it is maybe more my problem than theirs

thing that annoys me is our park states it is for under 12s.

Whoooosh · 12/04/2007 11:38

What annoys me even more is the really big kids who set fire to one of the two toddler swings in our park last night and melted the rubber seat.
The remaining swing is too low for dd so her feet drag on the ground

Greenleeves · 12/04/2007 11:39

I feel sorry for bigger kids and teenagers, they are just not welcome anywhere.

southeastastra · 12/04/2007 11:40

kids don't bother me at the park but parents who gather and drink lager then let their doberman run riot do

powder28 · 12/04/2007 11:45

Is it the new fashion to wear your hoodie over your face?

What happened to the emo's?

yes but 9 year olds on a park is fine imo. 16 yo's all sitting on the slide however annoys me. if they were sat on the bench or the grass fine, but why the slide?
