To not understand what all the fuss is about newborns??

So much happier when they can start doing stuff, smiling, talking, rolling, crawling etc.

I don’t think they smell of anything but milk, either.

You need to bath them in Johnson's then they smell good

They're soothing to cuddle when they're asleep

Its cure when they can't really control their own arms etc

Each age is lovely though except the climbing a d falling off stuff age

They are pretty cute in their scrunched up old man face phase! I agree they are more entertaining as they get older, but Peak Cute is definitely before six weeks.

Aww but new born are so tiny and cute 😍😍😍 I just love them

Oh and DS used to have this amazing look of pure bliss during BFing, and snuggle up and fall asleep on my chest. He currently feeds like a hungry baby otter and likes to sleep spreadeagled on my side of the bed.

Agree my newborns have always been the most hard work and they are too delicate. I spend the first six months a tired petrified mess. Much easier and enjoyable after then when they can interact etc.

Glad DC2 now has some head control. It’s so scary when it lolls about and your worried you’ll give them whiplash if you don’t clutch them tightly enough.

Also glad I’m not having any more so no more “OMG I can’t tell if babies breathing from the monitor”

I love every stage, but I can’t help but feel that people who say that bits the best are deluding themselves a bit.

And I don’t understand why everyone feels the need to visit you as quickly as possible.

Like, I’m trying to establish breastfeeding her Auntie Julia so bog off 😂

Come back when I’m not covered in puke, shit and lanolin cream, and Ive actually had time to give myself and the baby a bath

Oh and once I’ve had more than an hours sleep in a 3 day period

I loved my 4 month old as a new baby but she's much more interesting now. In the early days she cried, fed or slept. Now she's full of smiles, taking notice of things, and becoming more of a 'person.' Plus she was born early, lost a lot of weight and was slow to gain weight. So the first few weeks I was constantly worried. I do still worry about SIDS but not as much and enjoy her more.

I don't think her head smells special though. I keep sniffing it to see what I'm missing but can't really smell anything and never have been able to!

I’m scared shitless of newborns
To compound this fact, I’ve just been asked to be a guide parent (I have no clue what this entails TBH) to a baby that’s yet to be born, which means I’ll have no choice but to hold him when he actually arrives- unless I feign a terrible cold for the first 4 months or so of his life
It’s just that jerky thing they do, the floppy head and the impossibly fragile, bird like limbs. And the fact that you are holding something that means everything in the world to the person who has just handed them over- the pressure is literally palpable

I like cuddling other people’s newborns. And sniffing their fuzzy wee heads.

I did not enjoy having newborns of my own.

YANBU. Newborns are screamy shit factories. 10 weeks onwards and they're nice.

My own were tolerable but I have no interest in anyone else's. I really don't see the appeal.

I've always been a toddler person, we have great fun these days, he drives me fucking nuts but he has good banter 😎

Dreading the visitors, with no.1 they all came in the evening after work, this time foot is going down and no one after 5pm. If you're desperate to see the child book some time off work or come at the weekend!

Newborns send my ovaries nutty. I have a radar for them. Never liked babies, was more a dog person till I had one. it's just such a special time meeting your new little person. Would love to live it over again

It's interesting how 'off' babies I have become. Don't get me wrong. I understand what a complete and utter joy it is to start a family and go on to grow as a family. But after three kids and my last being just an incredibly difficult, non-sleeping baby/toddler, I find myself unable to even look at a pram coming in my direction. I was kind of sad to see how not interested I was in the new babies joining my extended family (at a huge family gathering recently). I had to fake being delighted and found I had no interest in holding them or anything! I used to be so broody! I think my last DC took all of the newborn baby love out of me! But if a child is between the ages of 5 and 20, I'm all yours, totally engaged and interested.
I totally love the ages my own kids are at now. I am really enjoying family life so much more since my last DC got out of the whole baby/toddler phase.

I thought the newborn phase was hard but now I miss a tiny person snoozing on me while I eat everything in sight and watch reruns of my favourite shows. Now it’s crawling and teletubbies.

I didbt hold DS till he was a few weeks old and then on a pillow on a ventilator with two nurses watcthing him and his BP. He was a few months old before I felt I had a right to pick him up without permission or help so its made me even more crazy for newborn cuddles. However the toddler feeds me chocolate and shares his dummy so clearly he grew up awesome

YABU, newborn babies are the cuddest, squishiest, adorablest things ever. Even more than puppies. I had five of them, but sensibly got my tubes clipped to prevent my succumbing to the desire for more cute squishy things.

My own, I get it. Other people's, not so much.

You're not supposed to bath them in anything but water are you? Especially not Johnson's, the way people went on about that I felt like it must be pure acid or something

DS mostly smelled of my sweaty armpit thanks to co-sleeping all night.

I did not understand the baby smell until I smelled friends' babies years later and it was clear, but it's only if you get really close into their heads, and even then not all babies seem to have it. I do just wonder if I'm missing a weird maternal gene or something though. We were in a lift with a couple and their newborn the other day and DH later said he could "smell baby". I thought he was absolutely nuts, neither DS or I smelled anything at all.

I think the newborn smell harks back to when babies were covered in 'baby powder' and nobody knew any better. My newborns tend to smell like my dads aftershave. I can always tell when he's been sneaking a cuddle and my poor little girl stinks of Aramis

I didn't get mine home to bath him until I could bath him in baby wash so I dunno at what age to use more than water.

Each to their own. Personally I love newborn babies. My ds is 2 and I'd give anything to have even just 1 more day with him as a newborn.

YANBU my newborn is now 6 months and a total joy - even when she's annoyed!
As a newborn she was a freaking nightmare. Did nothing but scream and complain for 4 months. Didn't sleep for nearly 5. I was totally overwhelmed. I wish I could have a couple of hours with her as a newborn now to enjoy it- but only a couple of hours! !
