In an ideal world no, it shouldn't be cut but I work in Local Government finance and I see how tight the budgets are on a day to day basis. There are some services a Local Authority must, legally, provide (statutory responsibilities). BF support is not one of them and difficult choices have to be made.

Even with the support, the percentages of breastfeeding mothers at six weeks don't back up the cost of the provision.
Sad, but true. If it comes to breastfeeding support, or a group that deprived children can access, or an asb group... decisions need to be made.
Yes, it's sad, but the council can't pay for everything.

Council budgets have been cut desperately low-I doubt this is a priority really.

Kent CC voted themselves a 15% pay rise and are taking the money from other services and then saying they can't provide them. It's a complete joke of a council (a very unfunny one)

If you want to save the bf support then you need to suggest where the money will come from. The reality is that there isn't enough to cover even essential services, so unless you can find a source of funding it isn't going to happen. Are there any charities that might be able to provide similar support?

(No surprise the councillors giving themselves a pay rise, the Tories will always look after themselves before others.)

Live locally and have 4 kids I think in the time I have had 4 the stats have roughly stayed the same on bf. Therefore the money ploughed into support isn't justified. To note, I have luckily found bf easy so prob easy for me to say but the fact is if you don't want to bf you won't and that's fine. Bottle or best is good with baby. Providing all the support on the earth won't force people to bf if they don't want to or are not able to, I'd much rather see the money supporting other good causes like care for elderly etc.

This happened years ago in Hampshire. They cut bf funding as the children's centres could deliver it. Then 6 months later closed all the children centres. Now they are stopping school crossing patrols and their answer to caring for children in care is to just take less children in to care. (And therefore not have to pay to support them.) Nice.

You basically don't get anything unless its a statutory service now.
