To think it'a a good thing to segregate boys and girls at a certain age

I know it's very different to a mixed school segregating but I wonder will that ruling have an impact on single sex schools? I don't know the prevalence of single sex schools in the UK but they are quite common where I live (a legacy of catholic controlled schooling). Many people here have no option but to go with single sex schooling and I think it's terrible. It creates a very artificial environment for children.

The secondary my kids attend is mixed, with feeder schools that are both mixed and single sex. The kids from the single sex schools struggle a little when they start as they are not used to dealing with the opposite sex as peers. They get used to it pretty quickly but if they went on to single sex secondary, the artificial environment continues until university.

Mine attended single sex schools at Secondary but regularly mixed with other schools and in groups outside school - then onto mixed 6th forms. Worked fine for them. I think the issue with the Birmingham school is theyre telling kids that mixing is wrong.

@frazmum - not all kids do activities outside school or they do activities that are, again, single sex (e.g. sports). The schools where I live don't do stuff with other schools and the local groups are mainly sports. If you don't live in an area with a lot of kids of a similar age, they are also less likely to randomly know kids of the opposite sex.

Fair point about activities. Still think there's a difference between single sex schools and telling kids that once they reach 10 it's wrong to mix.
