I know it's very different to a mixed school segregating but I wonder will that ruling have an impact on single sex schools? I don't know the prevalence of single sex schools in the UK but they are quite common where I live (a legacy of catholic controlled schooling). Many people here have no option but to go with single sex schooling and I think it's terrible. It creates a very artificial environment for children.
The secondary my kids attend is mixed, with feeder schools that are both mixed and single sex. The kids from the single sex schools struggle a little when they start as they are not used to dealing with the opposite sex as peers. They get used to it pretty quickly but if they went on to single sex secondary, the artificial environment continues until university.
