To call in sick...

...with an Ear Infection. Because my Line Manager seems to think I am.

I've been to the doctors and put on antibiotics and told I need to go back on Monday as it's quite bad so they're worried it might spread further down the ear and become an inner ear infection.

I work 3 days a week, it's an receptionist/admin type role but I job share with another lady who also works 3 days (company open 6 days). I am always happy to change days with my job share for childrens illness, so neither of us have missed work for our children being ill, we also happily cover each others annual leave so the company don't have to get agency staff in. This is my 2nd day off ill this year, the first I'd had a stomach bug the day before on my day off, again it was a Friday I took off.

My boss was a bit arsey with me on the phone because my job share is on Annual Leave this week so she's going to have to get agency staff in for today and tomorrow.

I feel awful for having time off. But I have hardly slept as I sleep on my right side and that's the effected ear and it hurt to lie on it. I feel sick, and I had to lie down after dropping DD at Nursery this morning. I've text DH to ask if he can finish early to do the Nursery run this afternoon as I just can't face feeling light headed again.

Hoping to rest for today without DD/DH, then have a lazy day tomorrow - DH will hopefully take DD for an hour so I can nap.

So AIBU? Or should I expect to be given a proper telling off during my return to work interview on Tuesday?

I think it’s all relative. Some people could work with an ear infection, some people can’t. Only you know whether you could or not.

It isn’t right for your boss to take it out on your if he is Inconvienced.

Its not your fault the other lady is on annual leave.
If you are sick YANBU to take time off work.

Unless there's a massive back story about how you normally take the piss then definitely not BU

helpme No like I said 2nd day off this year as if DD has been ill my job share has covered as I have for her when her kids have been ill, we just swap days basically.

YANBU earache is evil.

Get yourself a hot water bottle and rest your ear against it. It doesn't take the pain away entirely but it may make it more bearable Flowers

YANBU.... I've been off all week with the flu... I'm 7 months pregnant and there is no way i could've gone in at all, haven't even been able to lift my head off the pillow until today when I've managed to move downstairs... I'm glad I've got the weekend to recover properly before going back! Hope the antibiotics kick in soon op
