dh wants to move to warrington

I have namechanged so not worried about being identified.

I had DC1 in Warrington and I much prefer where we now live. However, DH wants to move back.

We left in 2011. Has it changed much?

Anyone know?

I'm in the NW. What are his reason for moving back - family?

oldlaundbooth · 03/10/2017 22:05

Er, depends really what you compare it to.

Where do you live?

ferriswheelsandseaside · 03/10/2017 22:07

Originally, he is from Leigh. I really didn't like Leigh (apologies if anyone is from there) so when we were buying a home we compromised on warrington. He doesn't have family there. I don't really know why he wants to move! We are quite rural where we are. Beautiful countryside but quiet.

Hi from south Warrington. It's still the same! Whereabouts are you looking to move to?

knowsnowt · 03/10/2017 22:11

I'm in Wigan but much prefer Warrington for shopping. Some good family days out too - Walton hall is lovely.

ferriswheelsandseaside · 03/10/2017 22:12

Hello! Not sure ... we used to live in Westbrook but we have more money now (not that Westbrook is bad or anything!) I like the look of Lymm.

I used to take baby DS to the zoo there Smile

Not really changed much at all. Some old bits have been knocked down and replaced by flats, especially on the edge of the town centre and out towards Howley and the Mersey.

They extended Golden Square so we have a Primark now!

Bridge Street has virtually no shops left, and the bottom end is still mostly pubs, clubs and takeaways.

Mr Smiths burned down.

The market is in the process of being rebuilt - Time Square has been demolished and there's a temporary market just opened there while they work on what will eventually be the proper new one.

It still smells when the wind is in the right direction and goes past Crosfields.

Whereabouts would you be looking to live? The places that were shitholes before still are (Dallam, Longford, Orford, bits of Latchford).

Traffic virtually stops for 4-5 hours from about 3pm on a Friday because one (or more) of the motorways breaks and they all try to divert through.

In fact the best thing about living in Warrington is that with the 3 motorways virtually forming a triangle round it it's fairly easy to get away from! (Except on Friday afternoons.......)

Seren85 · 03/10/2017 22:15

Well I'd rather live in Warrington than Leigh (yes I am local) but given the choice I would chose somewhere more rural unless it was for family reasons. Are his family at least nearby I.e. in Leigh or the surrounding area or does he miss more urban living? There must be a reason.

ferriswheelsandseaside · 03/10/2017 22:16

The traffic was horrific then, too. I worked in Altrincham and have never forgotten the day it took me four hours to get to work!

The zoo is still there. My girls love it and there's a fab playground they put in last year.

ferriswheelsandseaside · 03/10/2017 22:17

No, he only has one sister. She lives in Thailand!

cowgirlsareforever · 03/10/2017 22:21

Why would anyone not want to live in Leigh?

aintnothinbutagstring · 03/10/2017 22:22

Am from Warrington, in the south now, love hearing about what has and hasn't changed!

TheNoodlesIncident · 03/10/2017 23:13

You've got an IKEA there. I am very jealous Envy

ferriswheelsandseaside · 04/10/2017 07:35

I hate IKEA! Well, I don't, but I only went about ten times in the six years we lived practically on its doorstep.

Yambabe Warrington traffic predicted to be much worse when the new Mersey Gateway opens next week, due to all the toll avoiders.

3boys3dogshelp · 04/10/2017 21:40

Mr smiths burned down Shock Shock nooo!

manglethedangle · 04/10/2017 21:41

It really depends on where you are now. But Warrington is pretty grim. Coventry is the only worse place I can think of!

muminmanchester · 04/10/2017 21:45

South Warrington has nice areas: Lymm, Stockton Heath, Thelwall, Grappenhall are all nice with good schools too. My parents live in Lymm and it's lovely. It's quiet though - depends what you want from the area you live in I suppose. South Warrington is a bit easier for accessing Altrincham etc which gives you an alternative town centre to Warrington (and Altrincham is a far nicer town in my opinion!)

RedPandaMama · 04/10/2017 22:08

DP and I recently moved to Warrington. He's from the south (lovely Home Counties town) and I'm from Wigan. We live in Latchford - someone above said it's a shithole but I've not found that so far. We live right near the village, Lidl, doctors etc. 5 minutes drive to town and the stations, free parking on asda for town.

Golden Square is a really decent shopping centre and pleasant to walk around. Also they're doing up Time Square and putting in a load of restaurants and a cinema.

The reason we picked here is it's well connected - 30 mins on the train to Manchester, easy to get to Liverpool/Chester and other towns Wigan St Helens Bolton etc. Great motorway connections albeit bad traffic on an evening.

We like it so far. Smile

Ohwell14 · 04/10/2017 22:11

Traffic is still awful even before the new toll bridge opens so I would avoid if you hate sitting in your car forever Grin
