When is sushis ever acceptable?

DH says "go and get them sushis" I say that it should be "go and get the sushi"... If there are 2 lots of sushi in the reduced bit for example Grin

Surely sushi is always sushi. Even if there is hundreds?

"sushi [is]... a mass noun which means that it is considered uncountable. Therefore, the plural of sushi remains sushi. Sushi is usually uncountable" From the internets.

No idea what they mean. I can count sushi. One roll, two rolls...

KrytensNanobots · 03/10/2017 18:07

I'm sure the plural of sushi is sushi. Sushis just doesn't look right.

now sushi doesn't look like a word at all the more I write it

Butterymuffin · 03/10/2017 18:08

You're right, the plural is also sushi.

DixieFlatline · 03/10/2017 18:15

Even if it were 'sushis', it certainly wouldn't be 'them sushis'...

True.

silkpyjamasallday · 03/10/2017 18:53

'Them sushis' has a great ring to it though to be fair!

FakePlasticTeaLeaves · 03/10/2017 18:57

I would have got away with it, if it hadn't been for them sushis

HidingBehindTheWallpaper · 03/10/2017 19:04

Sushi is not individual things. You can’t have one sushi. Kind of like soup. You can have one bowl of soup or one plate of sushi.
You wouldn’t have 5 bowls of soups or 5 plates of sushi like you might have 5 Yorkshire puddings for example.

This of course brings us onto Lego. In British English you have a box of Lego and a single Lego brick. In American English you have a box on Legos and a single Lego.
