Just for an hour or two? I'm wearing slippers and a big jumper but I'm still chilly.

It's far too early in the year though, isn't it. God, I'm such a wuss when it comes to the cold.

I put mine on for an hour last night because the DC were having baths and I left it too late to light the fire.

PinkHeart5913 · 03/10/2017 12:46

I’ve had mine on a few times over the last few weeks.

Was a bit chilly when I got up this morning so me and the dc had porridge once Dh left, if I hadn’t if warmed up I would of put the heating on today too

Is money an issue? If not and you're cold then put it on for a while. If it is an issue could you fill a hot water bottle, put on a few more layers and some woolly socks?

It's horrible being cold Sad

SootSprite · 03/10/2017 12:56

Literally just put ours on. Bloody chilly.

MaidenMotherCrone · 03/10/2017 12:57

Why would it be unreasonable to heat your home? Is there a specific date one should adhere to for the big fire up.

If you pay the bills and you are cold put it on.

Mine has been on for weeks, properly on 6am to 9pm @ 21*.

I did an experiment last winter and instead of only having the heating on for a couple of hours in the morning and then again in the evening I set it as above.

Lovely warm house all through the winter and no difference in bill. Amazing!

With the wind howling round ours and it looking greyer by the minute , I've just turned ours on, and swept out the woodburner . Bugger being cold .

BulletFox · 03/10/2017 12:59

It was really cold last night and I put it on

breakabletoy · 03/10/2017 13:02

It's not a money issue thankfully, more of a shame issue Grin I feel I should be able to last well into autumn before needing the heating.

But I feel better about it now - going to pop it on for couple of hours until the flat is toasty

Some days in August I'd had the heating on, if you're cold, you're cold what's the point in suffering just because it's not got to X date yet (unless you can't afford to :( ).

K425 · 03/10/2017 13:04

If you can afford it, put it on. There was great rejoicing in our house on Sunday, marking the annual "turning the thermostat up to 17c" celebrations.

cushioncovers · 03/10/2017 13:05

Put mine on for first time Sunday. Two hours in the morning and two at night.

BexleyRae · 03/10/2017 13:07

I understand what you mean OP, I get guilty when putting on the heating

Topseyt · 03/10/2017 13:10

Ours is on the timer. A couple of hours in the morning and a few hours in the evening.

I have it set at 20 degrees. It has hardly come on at all really because round here it just hasn't been particularly cold yet (Essex).

Put it on if you want it on. It is October, after all.

I never really get this competitiveness over who can leave it off the longest, except where money is a major issue of course (been there myself before too).

pigsDOfly · 03/10/2017 13:11

I've been putting mine on in the evening for at least a month, perhaps longer. My house is quite a cold one and I feel the cold.
I don't do it every evening, didn't last night because it was quite warm here, but if I'm cold I'm not going to sit in my home feeling miserable because of the date on the calendar.
If you can afford to, put it on. It's horrible to feel cold.
