To think I have a mumsnet/social media addiction?

I am ashamed to admit that I am on my phone 24/7, literally as soon as I wake up until I fall asleep looking at it.
How the hell do I stop?!
I can't fall asleep without looking at my phone screen, multiple times where I have tried it has taken me 2+ hours to fall asleep.
I have a week and a half until my dissertation is due in and I have literally spent the whole day today here on mumsnet and facebook/instagram/Twitter.

Went into a separate room 2 and a half hours ago away from sleeping DP, to work on my dissertation and I've spent the whole time on here 🙃

Can anyone please give me some tips to bloody put my phone down and do some bloody work?! Because I'm going out of my mind Blush

Lock your phone away for a week and see how you feel at the end of the week?

GreenPetal94 · 02/10/2017 23:00

Obviously give someone you trust the key!

I downloaded an app called freedom which allows you to block certain apps and websites for a period of time. Once you've blocked them you can't unblock them till the time is up. There are lots of similar apps.

I'm not sure I'm ready to go a week without it but I'll definitely have a look at the app!

Put your phone in a separate room and work on your dissertation. Give yourself 2 hours to work then have a 15 min break when you can go to your phone then go back in the other room to work again. Use the phone as a reward once you've completed some work.

I think you have it the wrong way round. The screen is keeping you awake, you need to put it down at least an hour before bed. Then have a bath, read a book etc.

Try some of the tips in here,
www.realsimple.com/work-life/technology/social-media-addiction

Agree with the phone interfering with your sleep, the blue light interferes with melatonin which keeps you awake and then becomes a vicious circle, ie you cant sleep so you look at your phone.

Interesting quote from another article about social media addiction and how it wants you to keep going back to expose you to advertising etc

"Be mindful of how you are interacting with the world. Is your behaviour serving you, your life and your loved ones? If not, who is it serving?"

Don't charge it. Get an old style mobile for phone calls.

I'm the same op... tempted to ditch the smart phone and get a really basic one but I'd struggle without google maps!
