AIBU to think that 'warmest condolences' is a bit of a odd expression? Or is it just me?

OP posts:
SeashellHoarder · 02/10/2017 19:33

Weird, but surprising? No

MargaretCavendish · 02/10/2017 19:33

I thought that too. It's surely 'deepest condolences'.

LineysRun · 02/10/2017 19:33

No, it isn't just you.

Teacakequeen · 02/10/2017 19:34

I thought that too. Shouldn't it be sincere condolences? Or heartfelt?

Stopyourhavering · 02/10/2017 19:35

I'm not surprised...considering his previous tweets....the man has a poor grasp of the English language

RangeTesKopeks · 02/10/2017 19:35

To me, 'warm' and 'condolences' suggest two separate ideas. It seems a bit off, if sincerely felt.

His PR team must despair every day, he has very poor English language skills.

gamerwidow · 02/10/2017 19:38

No it's a really weird turn of phrase and suggests absolutely zero genuine feeling behind it. It's like watching an alien trying to approximate normal human behaviour.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 02/10/2017 19:39

The Donald has issues with using the English language. It tends to get mangled in odd ways. As do exclamation marks.

GrumpyOldBag · 02/10/2017 19:40

Totally bizarre choice of words. Although the statement he read later was much more eloquent and had obviously been written by one of his staffers.

LineysRun · 02/10/2017 19:45

He's a President who will 'always' support the legal capacity for any bloke to go to Las Vegas and be able to do this again. And again.

And send 'warmest condolences'.

And many survivors will go bankrupt paying for their medical care.

Bornfreebutinbiscuits · 02/10/2017 19:45

Yes they do seem to belong with other words. Reminds me of fil, has trouble expressing emotion, phrases things with strange business speak in emotional family situations. Eg give born free our kindest wishes when my df died!!

pasturesgreen · 02/10/2017 19:49

Definitely not just you.

Didn't expect much better, though.

FlandersRocks · 02/10/2017 19:53

Yanbu it's the first thing I though earlier. You offer your deepest or heartfelt condolences or your warmest regards...his wording definitely sounds wrong/off.

UserThenLotsOfNumbers · 02/10/2017 19:54

Deepest condolences
Warmest regards

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 02/10/2017 20:02

Yes, Rafals but he’s going to, you know, make the English language great again Grin

Beeziekn33ze · 02/10/2017 20:07

Oh, it's him

Jenala · 02/10/2017 20:09

No it's a really weird turn of phrase and suggests absolutely zero genuine feeling behind it. It's like watching an alien trying to approximate normal human behaviour.

Ha! This, definitely

Mustardnowletsnotbesilly · 02/10/2017 20:13

Sincerest or deepest would have done, warmest is just weird, he press team must hate him. He looked knackered and unwell at the press conference.

Italiangreyhound · 02/10/2017 20:19

Warm welcome, deepest condolences.

arousingcheer · 02/10/2017 20:20

'President Trump, deprived from birth by some genetic accident of all natural human empathy—one should listen to a recently recovered tape of Trump, speaking to Howard Stern, in which he is actually boasting of his indifference to a man he thought was dying—speaks empathy as a foreign language and makes the kinds of mistakes we all make in a second language that we have barely mastered, placing adjectives in places that no native speaker ever would. Who sends warmest anything to the families of murder victims?'

SusanTheGentle · 02/10/2017 20:21

Dude's a fucking lizard king from the future. Of course he can't approximate actual human feelings properly.

insancerre · 02/10/2017 20:23

It's a crock of shit
It doesn't mean anything

SnowiestMountain · 02/10/2017 20:23

Terrible, I also absolutely hate when people put a ! In messages like that, it’s like when people put RIP! On FB, horrific.

mrsRosaPimento · 02/10/2017 20:31

Narcissists don't have empathy or feelings for anyone but themselves.
