If you're going to NC why tell eveyone?

Why do people feel the need to say they've NC'd "because they don't want to be outed"? Why not just NC? Surely if they didn't want to outed they wouldn't draw attention to the fact - or do they deep down want to be recognised?

Because troll-hunters search for previous posts with a username, and if they don't find any, will accuse people of setting up a new account just to troll. Someone with a posting history is more likely to be believed.
