To bloody hate BT

Bunch of bastards.

DH and I have moved house approx. 4 times in the last five or so years (rentals) and every time we've moved our BT. And every time they've fucked it all up spectacularly and left us without internet for up to two months on one occasion, three weeks minimum. We've been through executive complaints a good few times.

Just moved house again. Before the move contacted BT and asked to cancel contract as no way we were attempting to move house with the road and contract again. They wanted £500. Explained all the issues we had and said no way were we moving with them. They said that if we gave them the chance they'd guarantee the internet would be ready in the new property today. If not we could cancel contract free of charge.

Well, it's certainly not working yet!! I do suppose they have up to midnight but if they had just let me cancel I could have gone with a provider who would have had internet and phone line ready already, will be a good week or so now.

So, AIBU?!

We've also had nothing but issues with them! Every time we moved we've been left without internet for weeks or months. There have been so many issues it's unreal! Plenty of high up complaints too. We've changed to plusnet (which I believe is owned by bt!?) And not had a single issue.

And no your not being unreasonable!

Awful company.

Had dealings with them for a short period about 5 years ago for reasons I won't bore you with. They were a nightmare, kept insisting I needed to pay for things I didn't need, internet was rubbish etc etc. And it was almost impossible to get hold of anyone to talk to about the problems I was having.

Would never ever go back to them again.

No YNBU. Bunch of bastards is right.

A month! A while month of no phone or Internet when we moved. We were kind of stuck as no cable here. Hmm

Bluntness100 · 28/09/2017 19:47

Totally reasonable. The only company to ever drive me to tears. I’ve never ever in my life dealt with anything as frustrating as dealing with bt

From fucking up our moving order so badly that someone in the uk had to take it over, to after getting a fault and them sending their first line engineers out, who stated fault wasn’t in house and filed a report which bt did not action, apparantly waiting for me to phone them multiple times and beg to get them to get someone to go to the exchange and fix it,

I even have a screen shot of one of their employees on Chat saying “I don’t know what to do, do you know”.

The icing on the cake? Complained via their complaints system I had to wait another month for a second line engineer to go to the exchange and the whole sorry story . Complaints person phoned me up, agreed it was wrong, advised I could now complain to ombudsman, said instead of four weeks, they would have an engineer there in two.

Phoned me back in ten mins, said she hadn’t booked the appt quick enough, it was now gone, and so was the one in a month, so I had to wait six weeks instead of four.

So yes I complained I had to wait a month and the fuckers that handle complaints then made me wait six weeks.and cancelled the original appt.

Fucking kill me now level of awful incompetency that actually made me cry.

BT. Stands for Bloody Terrible.

I'm with them and it sounds like stating the obvious but when it's working it's great. I don't get drop outs (pretty much ever) but when there is a fault it's a fucking nightmare to get it fixed. Usually takes at least 2, often 3 or more engineer visits because there's a problem with the cabinet down the road.

Eventually it gets fixed but hassle isn't the word. I've been through to executive complaints a few times too. Some of the C/S staff are great (but many just don't give a shit) as are the engineers, with only one exception.

Frustrating indeed.

Still no broadband! They have less than 4 hours and I'm free!

Not quite the case, I'm sorry to inform you. Unless there is an alternative (cable) service available you are stuck with BT even if you change providers. BT own the network, OpenReach are the contractors employed to maintain/repair that network. You can change to Sky/TalkTalk/PlusNet etc but if there is a fault it's on BT's network and OpenReach are the contractor.

You're in the same boat whoever your supplier is. BT own the network.

*Assuming you are using either ADSL or XDSL (former is normal broadband, latter is Fibre or part Fibre FTTC or FTTH)

They managed to cut us off for a few weeks even though we weren't even customers of theirs - in the critical lead up to A'levels too.
