That does look like flea dirt (poo)

Go through your dogs fur and have a good look

Look especially where the hair is thinner so on the tummy, arm pits, ears.

If your dog hasn't had his flea treatment this month, flea him anyway as a precaution

Sarahlou031 · 27/09/2017 17:04

This was after I did the 30 min flea treatment on him.
It said spray then 30 mins comb through and all that came out.

What flea treatment have you used?

littlecabbage · 27/09/2017 18:02

I am a vet. Those black specks look like flea dirt to me. Dampen the kitchen towel they are on, and see if they leave rust coloured marks - if so, it's flea dirt.

There are lots of flea treatments on the market that are useless (Bob Martins, Johnsons, etc). You need an effective one e.g. Frontline, Stronghold, Advocate, etc. Ask your vet or a pharmacist for advice. You need to treat monthly to ensure fleas don't return. Treat all pets in house, and you may need a spray for the house if infested. Again, your vet can advise which ones.

Yes it's flea poo ! After treating as above. Book him in for a good haircut and bath. Wash or throw out his bedding. And wash all your soft furnishings Inc curtains that sit on your floor
I was like a woman posessed after my dog was infested !

Get a soresto collar from the vet, it's the best flea and tick control I've ever found

HoneyIshrunkthebiscuit · 27/09/2017 18:21

You need advocate or advantage. Only stuff that works.

Seeyamonday · 27/09/2017 18:24

Vacuum everything within an inch of its life and go to the vet in the morning and then vacuum again, remember to empty the vacuum completely each time.

DJBaggySmalls · 27/09/2017 18:24

littlecabbage beat me to it; vets dont bother with Frontline in many places as fleas are immune to it. And if your pet has fleas they also need to be treated for tapeworm.
You cant treat for fleas or worms just once, its an ongoing problem. Just see your vet and get the stuff that works. Ask your vet about roundworm and lungworm while you are there.

Yes advantage is good stuff

That's what I use with my cat and it works quickly

Sarahlou031 · 27/09/2017 19:34

Brilliant ..fingers crossed it works.
I've never stopped hoovering all day.

I must admit I'm a slattern when it comes to treating the house

I've found as long as the animals are treated (all of them), then the cycle is broken and eventually the house is clear

This can take a bit longer than if you use indoor sprays and such, but it's much easier.
