Adverts - really annoying on this site

ordinarymumnat · 27/09/2017 11:03

I've only ever browsed this site (for years btw) with javascript disabled and I saw some ads - not many but they were there

But recently browsing on a normal full browser and the adverts are everywhere, including the really annoying background one, animation, popping up everywhere.

I get the need for revenue for a free site, but are the ads a bit overkill - puts me off even looking at them.

I assume you're happy to stay paying a subscription fee then?

TheNaze73 · 27/09/2017 11:31

They pay for a free to use site.

How would you find it OP?

TheNaze73 · 27/09/2017 11:31

Fund it even

ordinarymumnat · 27/09/2017 11:50

I should have said, or made clearer, that I understand the need for the adverts, but that I never realised how intrusive they are. Before I used to see some adverts only on this site, now they seem to be all over.

Try Nethuns if you want to see REALLY intrusive advertising.

Papafran · 27/09/2017 12:03

I use adblock. No issues at all (except I don't get the little box with the trending threads). I know it's possibly morally wrong, but I think I get enough advertising in my life.

ForexTrader · 27/09/2017 12:10

I use Adblock too and get no ads. It works beautifully and I do actually get the little box with the trending threads on.

FakePlasticTeaLeaves · 27/09/2017 12:12

If everyone uses ad blocker will will eventually have to pay for this site.

Yeah, I know... I do realise that it's a problem. But some adverts can be upsetting for people (e.g. multiple baby/pregnancy test ads for those posting on infertility threads) etc so I definitely understand why people use it. If MN goes paid, I would most likely stop using it.

FakePlasticTeaLeaves · 27/09/2017 12:47

Yes, I'd understand people blocking something that upset them of course. There are actually X on ads now so you can click and feedback the ones you don't like - you click it and say 'stop seeing this ad'.

specialsubject · 27/09/2017 12:51

The crap coding is the real issue - ads are easily ignored but they really clog the site up.

I've always generally run with JS off. I'll go and take look :)
