Lukaku song

Man Utd fans are accused of chanting a racist song about how well endowed Lukaku is.

Have ManUtd fans gone too far?

Are you a reporter? Sounds reported fishing for information phrased.

UnconventionalWarfare · 26/09/2017 13:23

Noone cares Biscuit everything is racist

McTufty · 26/09/2017 13:27

I think they have - I read about how the 'joke' about black men's penises and sexualisation of black men's bodies is actually rooted in a time when black men were accused of rape when in interracial relationships with white women because white men didn't like it.

I wasn't aware of that, and haven't researched it myself (though I've no reason to doubt it), but if that is he perception of at least some black members of society then I think that should be respected and such jokes and songs should stop.

ladyschwaggins · 26/09/2017 13:31

No not a reporter. It was phrased like it tho.

My SO said it was a compliment and we argued. Is that just a man's perspective?

I wanted to know what you all thought.

I'm not familiar with the song. How does it go? Is it something like:

Lukaku has a great big dick,
Doo dah, doo dah,
I am just a jealous prick
Oh dah doo dah daaaaay

derxa · 26/09/2017 15:50

Is Lukaku worried?

SoPassRemarkable · 26/09/2017 16:06

Something about him being a genius with a 19" penis.

He says it's a bit too much.....the chant not his penis!

SoPassRemarkable · 26/09/2017 16:07

It's his fans that sing it so I think it's said with good intentions.....but would they have said it about a white footballer or does it buy into the stereotypes of black men having large penises?

SoPassRemarkable · 26/09/2017 16:08

And penis doesn't actually even rhyme with genius.

ChocOrange3 · 26/09/2017 16:11

Having been to many football games I am surprised everyone is picking up on this song, there are many racist/sexist chants across the country. Including a MUFC one that referred to a South Korean player eating dogs!

flapjackfairy · 26/09/2017 16:15

Sopass i am giggling so much at your post !

skippy67 · 26/09/2017 16:18

I thought it said he has a 24 inch penis?

SoPassRemarkable · 26/09/2017 17:18

19" or 24" - not sure but I guess you wouldn't quibble about those missing 5" either way.

NotACleverName · 26/09/2017 17:31

What’s your AIBU?

Manchester United fan here: the chant is shit and low-key racist as is the Ji-sung Park one. Try telling that to some fans though. Even with detailed breakdowns of why and how it’s rooted in racist ideas they’ll still crow about how objecting to it is “political correctness gone mad!!!1!1”

I’m just glad that I don’t go to matches anymore so I don’t have to hear it.

Disn3yN3rd · 26/09/2017 17:50

UTD, like many other clubs, all have a variety of chants. One that sticks out in my mind is the Ji-Sung-Park chant about eating dogs in his own country. Nobody has ever batted an eyelid about it but yet it's different for Lukaku. If you are going to kick up about one chant then you need to do it across the league.

AtHomeDadGlos · 27/09/2017 13:54

Definitely not racist. It's a compliment!

theknackster · 27/09/2017 14:01

I think Marina Hyde summed it all up pretty well:

www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2017/sep/19/manchester-united-racial-stereotyping-romelu-lukaku-song

...and the song is rubbish, to boot.
