To not want to open in app...

Recently I've noticed that when I've searched for something in Google, it only displays results where you have to have an app to get to it.

E.G you don't get a link to a wiki page, you get a link to open it via the wiki app which you have to download. The same for Rightmove - you don't get a result for the Rightmove website, it's an app link which you need to app for.

Is it just some weird setting that I've somehow activated? AIBU to not want to download apps for random browsing?

What device are you using?

Grimbles · 23/09/2017 14:49

A galaxy tablet.

Sounds odd. I'm on the latest version of android and it doesn't do it on my phone... Have you tried clearing the app defaults?

Grimbles · 23/09/2017 15:30

Which app defaults Blush

This drives me mad. Pintrest can only be viewed on an app. So many things try and get you to download the bloody app which I don't want

Quite often there's a little box that says "no thanks, take me to the main website" but I wish it bloody wouldn't even try and get me on the app in the first place

araiwa · 23/09/2017 15:31

Click no and it takes you to the website?

Yes. Drives me crazy.
Pinterest. Grrrrrrr.
Facebook messager (which then messes up my email).

This is what I get now. I don't get the option to open a webpage in my browser. When I click on the link it takes me to the playstore to download the app.

In this example it's Wikipedia, IMDb and the guardian. Rightmove appears to be the same as well. I don't want to download an app!

Hmmmm. Maybe a long shot but go to Google settings, accounts and privacy, then make sure "open web pages in the Google app" is turned off.

I can open Rightmove, Wikipedia links etc without it forcing me to download the app. It often asks, but usually you can just say no!
