To expect tips on MN to bloody work! Light hearted :)

I've read about many wonderous tips on MN. One I keep reading about is to add white vinegar to a machine wash. Particularly towels as it 'makes them as fluffy as marsh mellows with no residual ordour'.

Well I was intrigued to say the least. So much so my curiosity got the better of me and I bravely added the white vinegar today. Disaster doesn't cover it darling. They came out smelling dreadfully of vinegar and the whole lot was rewashed, all the while I'm muttering 'bloody mumsnet'.

What did I do wrong?

What tips/hacks have you lifted from MN. What's transformed your life and what hasn't quite worked out for you?

I haven't seen that one but would assume you used too much?

Twoo · 23/09/2017 15:48

I used about 1/2 cup Confused

I'd have tried about a tablespoon, half a cup sounds like a lot!

TwatteryFlowers · 23/09/2017 15:52

What cup did you use? I wonder if it meant an American measuring cup and you've used a sports direct mug?

I've never heard or read that tip though so I don't know if it's wrong or not.

One mn tip I read was to use those little tabs on the cling film and fun foil boxes to make dispensing it easier. It's crap: the tabs breaks and then the box falls apart.

MulhuddartDrive · 23/09/2017 15:52

I use vinegar. Once they are out of the machine for a few minutes, the smell disappears

TwatteryFlowers · 23/09/2017 15:55

Fun foil? WTF is that?! I meant tin foil HmmConfusedGrin

I bought a babyliss big hair roller and then nearly had to cut a chunk of hair out of my head when it got jammed in there.

And it just left it frizzy. Didn't work for me.

DubiousCredentials · 23/09/2017 15:57

I use vinegar all the time and have towels like marshmallows but I only put about a tablespoon at most in. Just a hefty squirt.

HopefullyAnonymous · 23/09/2017 16:03

Curious to know where the vinegar goes! Presumably not with the powder or fabric conditioner?

SilentlyScreamingAgain · 23/09/2017 16:07

I tried the vinegar thing, everyone in the house wanted chips from the chipper.

DubiousCredentials · 23/09/2017 16:12

Where the fabric softener goes.

Twoo · 23/09/2017 21:37

Sounds like I massively over dosed the vinegar ... no wonder they smelt vinegary Grin

Queen' I got the big hair hot brush and it's the best thing since sliced bread for my hair (bought on back of mn tip). Perhaps it's suited more to one type of hair. My is fine hair but loads of it. It gives it great bounce and shine.

Twattery' I also tried using the tabs on foil, cling film etc. They are just not robust enough and don't bloody work.

I also bought the Korean slug slime for radiant skin. Pants it was.

Doesn't the smell go when they dry? That's how it works when you use it for cleaning.

Well along with the whole 'less is more' philosophy Grin

Twoo · 23/09/2017 21:41

Just thought of another one.

Someone once posted about a great sale at Hobbs. I got a fab suede skirt for about £25 instead of £180 Grin

Oh and to actually add to the thread - hot oil skin cleansing. Took me forever to find a recommended oil - castor I think it was - and my skin broke out like puberty had hit again.

Corn on opening the door of the washer, the smell nearly knocked me of my feet. I didn't want the expense of drying them in the dryer and risk them tainting that machine too. I shut the door on the offending wash and gave it another cycle.

Twoo · 23/09/2017 21:46

Yep I tried that too Corn ... and the twice cleansing washing by CH. I'm so gullible. I'm sure if someone said 'go stand at the end of the rainbow 🌈 because there really is a pot of gold', I'd pack some sandwiches and a flask and start trekking Grin

I tried the coke to clean limescale from a toilet. It might be very clean limescale now, but unfortunately it is also brown limescale.

Twoo · 23/09/2017 22:29

Oh no Pax', what a bugge!
