This is prob outing but I don't care.

I work in a nursery that I love. It's the first job in excited to wake up and be excited to go to work. I love it. How ever we have been told there is a high chance of them closing, it will be open till December but after that we have no clue.

Two members if staff have been let go, and a further 5 more have hand their notice in. The assistant manager and cook are going to.
We have lost a fair amount of children due to the change in how they charge (which was done to make more money so we can stay open)
They are not taking on any more children or replacing the staff thatbare leaving.

We will have no room leaders in our room by October.

I am also doing my level 3 with the company. I habe two children to support on my own. I don't know if I should leave and get any job I can now or wait it out till December where we might be given 1 weeks notice.
With everything I can't see us staying open at all but the positive in me says we may pull through

What would you do?

If I thought my job was likely to close by December I'd be looking for another job. (The nursery my boy goes to has just changed its pricing and people are leaving - hope you're not working at that one because I love it and would be devastated if it closed)

I'd start looking now and try to find something. You won't get much redundancy pay off and won't k own when the next job is coming up.

What a shame . I'd send my cv to all the local nurseries.

Thesmallthings · 23/09/2017 13:15

I don't think I'll get any reduncy pay iv only been there a year.
Part of me feels that every one handing their notice in is just going to force the directors hand in closing it but again we all have family to feed.

No it won't force their hand as they can get on more staff. Uncertainty is pretty horrible and if not at Christmas, it could close later on. You just don't know what goes on at the senior team meetings. I'd cut my losses.

Thesmallthings · 23/09/2017 13:24

Also regarding my level 3 course... If I choose to leave the nursery I can habe another nursery take it on but I will have to pay a fee for this. Which I can't afford right now
If I'm made redundant I can still change it iver but won't have to pay.

Also because I don't drive I have to stay in the town I am and there's no nursery jobs going atm. I'm looking out of town and seeing if travel is suitable but the ones iv seen have be comparable.

It's just really really shitty not only having to leave/lose a job that I love and having to stop my course.

Back to cleaning shitty toilets it is.

Could you do childminding instead?

Thesmallthings · 23/09/2017 13:30

My tiny 2 bed flat is not suitable for childminding, plus i don't have the start up funds to be officially licenced for it.
I could be a nanny but as i don't drive my options are limited.

Ameliablue · 23/09/2017 13:36

I'd stick with the job for the moment but keep looking at what other jobs/options are available.

Thesmallthings · 26/09/2017 08:10

Just to update and because I'm not allowed to say anything right now to people in rl

I went to a random last minute interveiw at a nursery that children had gone to.
This place never has any opening. It's been around 40 years.. same owner and has kept it's staff.

I phoned up yesterday got asked to come down a d now I'm going back today and for the rest of the week for a couple of hours to see if I fit in witth the other staff members and if get on ok in there
It's term time and 10 an hour they will also let me carry on my course there iv not officially got it but it was very promising it's also right next to my child's school a d home. The hours are slightly longer but there said I can bring my youngest with me in the morning then walk him to school when I need to.

I'm really on cloud 9 and can't believe this has happened.
