Born, or first registered?

SandyDenny · 22/09/2017 11:46

Cars aren't born, what do you mean?

I don't know if the rules have changed recently but the MOT test date and is measured from when the car is first registered.

Spuddington · 22/09/2017 12:14

Of course cars are born, Smart Cars are clearly toddlers in disguise.

Cars are totally born! Although unlike babies, they at least come with a warranty in case they go wrong…
I think for brand new car, it’s 3 years before it need an MOT so yes January 2019

K0729P · 22/09/2017 12:20

Why don't you check status of vehicle online, can be quite handy.

Longdistance · 22/09/2017 12:25

If you bought it born brand new, then yes, you don't need an MOT in the first 3 years.

dingit · 22/09/2017 12:25

I will check with that, thank you.

I'm asking because when I arranged my service they mentioned the Mot is due Jan 2018. It's a 16 plate.

Ah, it was registered march 2016, but no mot records known, presumably asit's never had one. No idea what the woman at Honda was on about then.

It's probably a Capricorn then if it was born in January, although could be Aquarius. Depends on its personality really.

Scuzzlet · 22/09/2017 13:30

Yes it’s due for MOT when it turns 3 years old. So January 2019. You’ll need to find out the date the car was actually registered though to know what date it needs testing by

Ring your health visitor and ask her, Hun.

dingit · 22/09/2017 17:53

Saucy Grin
My car was definitely born. She's called Rhonda. So there.

My car is three next week. If it's very good and passes it's MOT on Wednesday I'm going to treat it to a tax disc.

dingit · 22/09/2017 18:21

If it doesn't will you thrash it, john Cleese style?
