Quick advice needed, bike accident

Posting here for a fast response
Neighbour and his 4 year old son were on way back from grandmothers and they've had an accident. Dad has hurt his arm but seems okay but 4 year old has had a Big Bang to the head. He seems okay, he's awake, alert and doesn't feel sick but has quite a large egg on side of head.
Should we take him to A&E just because it's an injury? Dad's taken the brunt of the fall and 4yo was in a helmet but still has a bump
Sorry if not much sense is being made!

I would take him to A&E if it was me but if you want reassurance first then phone 101?

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 19/09/2017 22:17

I would, esp if he has a large bump.

Foxysoxy01 · 19/09/2017 22:17

Sorry not 101, but 111

WomanEmpire · 19/09/2017 22:18

I think dad needs stitches in his arm but he's petrified of hospitals so main concern is 4yo

a+e. Far better to get head injury checked out.

DO3271 · 19/09/2017 22:20

They both need to go. Dad is going to have to man up on this occasion for his son, head injury like that should be checked.

DeadDoorpost · 19/09/2017 22:21

A&E as injuries like concussion don't always manifest themselves straightaway. Hope your son and dad are both ok.

WomanEmpire · 19/09/2017 22:25

Not my son, it's my neighbours. Dad has SEN and is deaf, my BSL is limited, but I care for his 4yo a lot. I am on hold for 111 now thank you all

If it is a large egg it may be a fractured skull - def need to get it checked out

IvorHughJarrs · 19/09/2017 23:43

I was under the impression that you would just wait about for ages in A&E for them to tell you that you can go home but come back if drowsy, vomiting, etc.

Always seemed that way with mine. They'd check they could see how many fingers the doctor was holding up then send you home with a leaflet

mirime · 19/09/2017 23:59

In my experience 111 will always tell you to go to A&E with a head injury in a child.

WomanEmpire · 20/09/2017 00:56

He got worse very quickly and was shaking violently and quite hard to keep awake, scary how quickly it happened. I have never experienced anything like that with my DC.
An ambulance has taken him in and I have notified the grandparents. It's a difficult situation because communicating can be tough and neighbour was very nervous and felt awful about it.

Sorry to hear that OP. It's good you were there to support them both. I hope you get some sleep tonight and good news in the morning Flowers

DO3271 · 30/09/2017 15:17

Hey OP. How are they now? Musy have been very scary.

StewPots · 30/09/2017 15:22

A & E for both OP! I had a nasty concussion this week that didn't present until a few hours after when I started zoning out, slurring my words and could barely stand up! I had a CT scan that showed no lasting damage but I'm still feeling rough 3 days on...so especially the little lad needs to get checked to be on the safe side.

Hoping all is ok for them both.

StewPots · 30/09/2017 15:25

Sorry didn't check the date as it just came up on active...hope all worked out ok OP, sounds like a very scary situation.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 30/09/2017 15:27

Ds3 had concussion and vomiting in his sleep after a fall.
Dr said to me that a bump is a good thing, no bump is bad ( ds didn't have a bump).

Hope they are ok.

WellThisIsShit · 30/09/2017 15:30

Lordy, I hope both are doing ok now. You must have been scared, and shocked.
