to ask if everything is ok at home?

Long back story but, basically, I fell out with a very good friend a few months ago. She has a lot of alcohol and man issues.
Her daughter has recently started attending a school at the end of my street (approx 6 miles from ex friends house). The daughter regularly turns up at my house after school (at least 3 times a week) for various reasons. I always check her mother knows where she is and daughter always says yes.
I feed her and have absolutely no problem with her being here as she's a lovely girl.
My concern is why doesn't she go home after school? my own children can't wait to get home on a nighttime. Ex friend has younger children as well so I really want to ask if all is ok but don't want to be seen as nosy or for ex friends daughter to feel she can't come here andto wander the streets instead....

The answer may lie in your first two sentences. The alcohol and the men issues probably.

Does she go home herself later on ? I'd maybe reassure her that she can talk to you about anything & she's always welcome & see if she says anything

You are her safe place, she needs to feel safe with you so ask questions slowly and reassure her it's okay to talk to you. My friends mum was my safe person she was always there for me

How old is she?

Minifootballteam · 18/09/2017 18:55

She's 12 but quite immature if that makes sense

I think you can ask her, in a quiet, calm way, as long as you don't push if she's not ready to answer yet. You don't say how old she is, but I'm guessing year 7?

Birdsgottafly · 18/09/2017 18:57

Don't ask the question outright. Chat to her and gain information that way.

If you scare her off, she may end up hanging around the streets and she will be vulnerable.
