I don't really know where to start here. I fell out with a very good friend a few months ago. Her daughter has since started attending a school at the end of my street (approx. 6 miles from ex friends house)
I'm aware of previous issues in the household regarding ex friends alcohol and man issues but since her daughter has started the school she (child) regularly appears on my doorstep for various reasons.
She sometimes stays til 8pm before getting a bus home (I don't drive so can't take her) I always feed her etc. I have no problem at all with her being here, she's a lovely girl. I always ask if her mam knows where she is, she always says yes.
I'm just concerned as to why she doesn't go straight home. All my children can't wait to get in on a night time. Ex friend has other, younger children so I want to ask if there's issues but don't want to be accused of prying. Also don't want ex friends daughter to feel she can't come to my house and wander the streets instead......

How old is she?

I wouldn't get involved (unless you are wanting to repair your friendship with ex friend)

Just be supportive and welcoming and always tell her she can talk to you about anything.

I personally would phone her mum or another adult (gran etc) to inform them that she is with you. I wouldn't accept at face value that her mum knows of her whereabouts. She probably doesn't but just to be transparent & keep your back covered it's best to inform the mum.

The poor girl might be using your home as a safe haven if her home life is bad. How old is she? Is she 11/12 yrs old? when it gets dark soon it's not ideal for her to be getting the bus back home 6 miles away at 8pm. I think her family should know tbh just for your own sake.
