Text telling me about a hospital appointment

Received a text yesterday along the lines of "We are expecting you for your appointment at XX hospital at 3pm on the 20th. If you do not attend it will cost the NHS £160. To cancel ring xxxxxxx number'.

The hospital mentioned is one I've been a patient at, but I am not aware of, nor have I received any letter regarding any outpatient appointment.

Even if it is legitimate, I don't know what department it's for! Do I just show up with some spurious text?

Does this sound dodgy to anyone bar myself?

Don't take a taxi and turn up without calling or your next post will be how the bus got it wrong. If you call they will be able to check the system and see if they just got a wrong number, which seems the most likely explanation. If you had called rhem when they got it they could have been able to contact the person it is really booked for. Call them aa aoon aa you can this morning and save youfself a trip.

Mystery finally solved. It's an appointment with consultant in hepatology (however you spell that!).

Ahhhhhhhhhhh so you did have an appointment ?

Bufferingkisses · 19/09/2017 14:14

Glad it's resolved! Sorry to hear of the other goings on though, hope you are ok Flowers

All ok with me. At this stage, if there is no tragic drama going on with me I'm more worried!

Consultant was lovely.

God I'm sorry. I know all too well that bad luck seems to gather around one poor sod (usually me!). I don't dare tell anyone how much awful stuff has happening /continues to happen over the last few years - I'm embarrassed to keep having world shattering traumas and people certainly wouldn't believe it if I told them. I'd rather suffer on my own than have skeptics deciding it 'couldn't possibly happen' to one person.

Anyway, poor you, life can be shite (repeatedly). Glad the appointment didn't deal any more bad news.

orbitmic · 19/09/2017 19:38

Most likely someone else put the wrong number on their information.

TiesThatBindMe · 19/09/2017 20:36

Wellthisisshit Exactly. I no longer bother detailing my woes as it's just like something a troll could make up! Truth is stranger than fiction sometimes.
Anyway, nothing disastrous going on with liver but consultant being cautious. Have to find a new GP for my new address as they can't update my postal address on the system at the hospital without it coming from the GP and if I change my address with my current GP I'm out of their catchment area so I won't be able to get my usual prescriptions.
Mission for tomorrow: Find new GP.
She has referred me for an ultrasound so I need to get notification of that appointment.
THINGS TO DO: Stop people giving me Things To Do. :)

I've had this happen twice! Our hospital always texts reminders but twice it has happened and I didn't know why. Called the hospital switch board and was put through to appropriate departments and turns out letters must've been lost in post or something. Totally legit. Good luck

orbitmic and autismanonymous. It's a pity you didn't read the full thread. :)
